Lots has changed in the last ten years, though much remains the same. This week a radio announcer was very pleased to announce that the test results showed that there were no failing schools for the first time in Palm Beach county for the first time after 8 years of Jeb Bush's accountabiity regime. It has been interesting to witness the whole process through resistance to grudging compliance to success. We have minority and immigrant schools performing at the top and a black high school rated #6 in the country.

Of course, the other side is that the home schooled children win all the prizes and a hugely disproportionate share of seats in competetive colleges. The Baptists were expected to withdraw their children from government schools by vote at their convention this week.

More schools will close, but many will remain. Suburbs are happy with their schools, and poor will undoubtably take whatever they can get.
