Thrash and toss that strawman, Dane. Chew it hard!

Hardly a hero. I've never watched his show and don't know what he believes.

But keep jumping to conclusions. I hear that it's great exercise.

It's my contention that Cannon's record on illegal immigration was poor prior to the last Republican primary challenge by Throckmorton in 2004. Since that primary challenge, it is my contention that Cannon's voting record on illegal immigration has changed and that he seems to be supporting enforcement first and HR4437 without amnesty."

I don't think that contention is accurate.
Have you seen any statement by Rep Cannon withdrawing support or sponsorship of the AgJobs bill?

This suggests he is still for legalization:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-utahimmig30apr30%2C0%2C2474617.story?coll=la-home-nation

"At a recent forum, Cannon sat on a folding chair in the living room of an Eastern Provo ranch house as nine GOP activists questioned him about illegal immigrants.

"It sounds like you're in favor of giving amnesty to the ones who are here now," said Sharon Memmott, a homemaker.
Cannon said he wasn't in favor of amnesty, but of allowing law-abiding people who are working to continue to contribute to the economy"

... that is the same double-talk we get frm McCain, but you pull the covers off and the actual bills is for 8-10 million amnesties-to-citizenship for workers, even with minimal work histories and even with zero checks against fraud, and their full families.

"BS, Cannon has a 97 ACU rating, but in your tancredo/bay buchanan knee jerk animus, you would throw him away for an unknown, like you all did with Perot(which gave us 8 years of Clinton)."

Listen, pal, blowing up at me with this nonsense will get you nowhere. I'm not supporting Tancredo for President, nor I have no idea what this "Bay Buchanan" bit is. Nobody is throwing their votes away tossing out people that refuse to do what is right, especially on the two most preeminent issues facing the nation, Iraq & Illegals. Both the Cannon and Duncan districts are HEAVILY Republican, and any Republican who defeats them in the primary, it is almost a guarantee they win. Oh, and btw, as an 18-year old in the 1992 election, I proudly cast my first vote for President GHW Bush.

"Do you all ever think with your brains instead of your knees?"

Do you ? Before jumping in with your half-baked, knee-jerk assumptions, why don't you ASK first.

Huh and look who is on Cannon's side now in 2006, Matt Throckmorton.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT) and Matt Throckmorton, chairman of Cannon’s Immigration Advisory Committee, today sent the following open letter:

"Chris Cannon is the author of the Student Adjustment Act, which would not only give illegals amnesty, it would also make them eligible for in-state college tuition and it would let them pay that discounted tuition with federal grants." http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1634182/posts

"This link offers no support for your claim that the Student Adjustment Act gives illegals amnesty"

That's not my claim, but a direct quote from the link.
The fact is that the claim *IS TRUE*... the Student Adjustment Act, H.R. 1684, sponsored by Rep Cannon, does have legalization provisions. This Act also goes by name "DREAM Act" (Senate bill name). Some details on it:

http://www.immigration.com/improving_immigration/dreamact_details.html

"Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Richard Durbin (D-IL) introduced the bipartisan Development, Relief, and Education for Minors (DREAM) Act of 2003 (S.1545) on July 31.

In the House, the Student Adjustment Act, H.R. 1684, was introduced on April 9, 2003 by Rep. Chris Cannon (R-UT) along with 15 Democratic and 15 Republican original cosponsors."

What the DREAM Act does:
"As these young people deserve a fresh start, both in fairness to them The DREAM Act would address this issue in two ways:

* by deleting a federal provision that interferes with a state's right to determine which students qualify as "residents" for purposes of in-state tuition or other state education benefits;

* and providing a mechanism for certain long-term resident immigrant students with good moral character to apply for legal residency so that they can work and otherwise fully participate in their communities"

Specific amnesty provisions are: "The students would have to meet the following additional requirements: high school diploma or the equivalent, physical presence in the U.S. for at least five years preceding the enactment of the law, and good moral character."

So, basically: An illegal alien family comes to the US, brings their kids. The kids get educated on the US taxpayer for 5 years, and if the kids arent juvenile delinquents, they get to be legalized via this bill.
Yes, it *IS* amnesty.

Let's compare, shall we:

Rep. Tom Tancredo's ratings from various conservative organizations:
100% "Best and Brightest" Rating from American Conservative Union (one of only 38 other Congressmen)
100% Rating from National Right to Life Committee
100% Rating from Conservative Index (Spring '05 - 75% lifetime, tied for second highest rating)
100% Rating from Concerned Women for America
100% Rating from Christian Coalition
100% Rating from Campaign for Working Families
100% Rating from FreedomWorks
98% Rating from National Tax Limitation Committee (average since 1999)
95% "Taxpayer Hero" Rating from Citizens Against Government Waste
95% Rating from Americans for Tax Reform
95% Rating from Christian Action Network
93% Rating from Eagle Forum (tied for second highest rating)

Rep. Tom Tancredo's ratings from various leftist organizations:
0% Rating from National Education Association
0% Rating from National Organization for Women
0% Rating from Brady Campaign
0% Rating from People for the American Way
0% Rating from Planned Parenthood
0% Rating from Pro-Choice America

Rep. Cannon's ratings for comparison:

American Conservative Union: Lower than Tancredo's score.
National Right to Life Committee: Same as Tancredo's score.
Conservative Index: MUCH Lower than Tancredo's score.
Concerned Women for America: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Christian Coalition: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Campaign for Working Families: Lower than Tancredo's score.
FreedomWorks: MUCH Lower than Tancredo's score.
National Tax Limitation Committee: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Citizens Against Government Waste: MUCH Lower than Tancredo's score.
Americans for Tax Reform: Similar to Tancredo's score
Christian Action Network: Lower than Tancredo's score.
Eagle Forum: Lower than Tancredo's score.

Cannon scores consistantly lower, sometimes much lower, than Tancredo in ratings from conservative organizations. The only standout issue to you is that Cannon supports amnesty and rewards for illegal aliens and is for open borders. You trash Rep. Tancredo who consistantly scores higher and has one of the best conservative voting records in Congress while you promote Cannon who has lower ratings. You ignore Tancredo's ratings - or call them "spam" - yet you post Cannon's ratings like they mean something. Hypocritical, to say the least. Your pro-amnesty and rewards for lawbreakers and anti-national security liberal propaganda is so blatant that your past allies here have even abandoned you. So why don't you go get yourself a nice, hot cup of STFU and let the conservatives do the posting here for a while.

Maybe you should remember the commandment of bearing false witness.

False witness? Like when you lie about Tom Tancredo and John Jacobs? That kind of false witness? Hypocrit.

During a May 4 Washington, D.C. forum sponsored by the Latino Coalition, Representative Chris Cannon (R-Utah), a congressional point man for the Bush administration’s illegal immigrant amnesty proposal, suggested that fellow Republican congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado "ought to reconsider his membership in the Republican Party," reported the Rocky Mountain News.

Wow! Talk about back stabbing. Cannon really said that about conservative Republican Tom Tancredo?

BTW, txdoda, you do know that your hero tancredo pulled a taxpayer paycheck from the liberal dominated US Dept. of Education for 12 years, don't you. And also the person you hate, Chris Cannon, has publicly stated that the Dept. of Education should be dismantled.

Conservative Republican Tom Tancredo has a lower lifetime rating from the National Education Association than your open borders buddy Cannon. Which congressman is voting for the liberal education camp more often? Hmmmmm?
