In 1971 McGovern lost because he was, indeed, a cut and run candidate. Nixon was the "leave with honor" candidate. In either case the message was clear: we would leave. And we did, and as you know, millions died as a result.

Now we face an enemy that will bring the war to our shopping centers and people are losing heart in this war. That is my point.

I think the "Illegal Immigration" issue and President Bush stand regarding it had further depressed some of you guys in Arizona and this was carried over to Iraq war. HOwever this does not matter because your Republican friends and those independent leaning Republicans in Arizona will vote for the Republican candidates for the House and Senate because the democrats are a nightmare. From practical point of view this is what matter at HOME, staying in power so we can keep fighting this war and winning it.

President Bush will not leave Iraq before we achieve the ultimate victory there even if only three people are left supporting him. That is an important point you need to understand. Also the democrats are not going to gain power and hence the financial support for the war will continue.

I was talking about the support for the war. As for immigration... most of the Rep. candidates in AZ who are running are on the right side of the issue. My concern is with support for the war. The war effort at home is depressed, throughout the country. It needs bolstering. I don't have the answers, but I know that is the case. I would hope to see some patriotic events right now leading up to the 4th of July and I'm not seeing them. The administration has the job to improve the situation. With Tony Snow now there, he should at least be alerting them to the situation.

What is the democrat plan for the Iraq war, it is "CUT AND RUN". When the majority of voters go to the polls this election they will not put the lever for them.

If Murtha is so brave and such a war hero, he sould immediately arrange to trade himself for the two soldiers. The terrorists would then have a US Congressman, far more value than two soldiers, Murtha would show he is indeed a hero and a leader, and everyone on Free Republic as well as the military would have a new found respect for the old guy.

Dont hold your breath, cowards like Murtha never move to the front of the pack.

I really am not talking about winning an election. I am talking about support for the war effort.

The President's dedication to un charged Marines, held in shackles and in solitary confinement seems rather shallow.

He needs to get on TV immediately and tell the insurgents that harming these soldiers will cause them far more grief. Afterall, we have many of them, maybe 25-1 would be a good ratio for us to take reprisals on.

Bush claims to support the troops. This is the time to do it Mr President.....

Do not fall into the "Psychological aspect" of the war. I am not afraid if 60% of the Public does not support the war, it means absolutely nothing since our President Bush will continue fighting the war despite the low approval numbers, our troops will fighting the war with bravery, and the Congress will keep financing it since the Republican will stay in power. Even if the democrats win in a miracle this election they will not have enough votes to stop financing the war.

I didn't say they were for "cut and run" they are for "how do we get out". There is a difference.

No, there is not.

"Is" means "is", "amnesty" means "amnesty" and "Cut and run" is exactly the same as "how do we get out.

I'm a bit tired of language being adjusted to suit whatever one's rational might be.

I am talking about support for the war effort

As I told you in many posts, it does not matter. President Bush who is the Commander in Chief will keep fighting the war even if majority of people do not support it.

Adjust your "psychology" to accept that only minority will support this war as in almost every war (except perhaps WW II) but as long as our President and our troops want to fight it we will win this war.

We are talking about good Republicans who are very supportive but who have kids my son's age and don't like the direction the war has gone in. These are not cowards and they are not politicians, they are simple, very hard working, middle-to-upper-middle-class Americans.

Now we face an enemy that will bring the war to our shopping centers and people are losing heart in this war. That is my point.

Then tell that to your friends...that's to the point & easily understood. That is why this war has to won even when the going gets tough & stays tough...we STAY TOUGH!!!

PS...May God keep your son safe & strong & tough...and for you this prayer, too! A sincere heartfelt thank you to the both of you, your sacrifice does not go unappreciated!

I don't believe I engaged in a description of their characters, did I?

I denounced the statement there is a difference between "how do we get out" and "cut and run".

There is NO difference.

From that you derive "cowards", "unsupportive, "politicians" and a need to defend their middle class lifestyle.

All irrelevent to me.

I refuse to allow unchallenged that there is a space of difference between the two positions.

No, on second thought, if they are at the stage of asking how we get out, then they have moved beyond merely asserting we have to leave but have arrived at configuring a way to do it. This is what I derive from the language you have chosen to reprsent their views. If this isn't accurate of their views, retract the statement. A word's meaning cannot be adapted to suit whatever you wish.

If they are simply do not "like the direction the war has gone", such as Saddam overthrown, new Iraqi cabinet, Zarqawi dead, crackdown in Baghdad....Tough. I'm pretty happy in that regard.

If the problem is the media, tell them to turn the propagandists off.

If you are looking for sensitivity from me, you won't find it. It's war. It's not a "feel good" undertaking, and I'm not in this to bolster people's spirits. They have a duty to suck up the good and bad, straighten their spine and know the difference between right and wrong. Showing weakness by succumbing to the fantasy of the return of the '90's "peace and proserity" if only we find a way out doesn't sell with me. It was during that time of "peace" they attacked us and people didn't raise an eyebrow so self absorbed were they. All the while they plotted 9-11.

I'm not in this to look for an "escape". I want the terrorists dead. I want the society of the M.E. brought into the 21st century. Only then will I look to how we will get out, because only then will it be safe to do so. And I anticipate this lasting at least a couple of decades, just so you know the timetable I am on. Iraq is only one part, and closer to end than beginning. We have a long way to go in re: to the entire region so better advise they adapt to that.

BTW, those friends of yours may be simple hard working middle to upper class Republicans, though it wouldn't matter to me if they were extravagant or flamboyant dirt poor to scandalously rich Republicans, they represent the minority views of their own on this issue. Doubt this? Look to the vote of the House Republicans that wouldn't committ suicide by voting for a resolution that equates Iraq with the WOT and refuses to se a timetable. Joined by 42 Democrats. Your friedns are in the minority.

I don't really think we will. The guys that pulled off the attack are low level, the "brains" of the operation realize that killing these two will seal their fate so they may be used for a bargaining chip to save their hides as we are tightening the noose on most of these guys.

If they did release a video of something horrendous happening to these two, I am not for sure what the reaction back home would be. Far left and true conservatives are predictable, but I would be willing to bet that many moderates would get p***** and demand retribution. Remember, the majority of Americans still have a pair and they don't take kindly to some Islamist killing their boys.

"and a pox on those that let only 3 of our troops man a checkpoint in that hellhole"

True. There is a concept out there called "guardian angel" and it is SOP for the Marine Corps and this is why.

Can you imagine what these guys are going through? I can't even imagine being in their shoes wondering weather or not your going to be beheaded or not, etc. They are in the hands of evil people, savages, lower than whale turds. I will pray for these guys every time I think about them until we hear of their fate. God Bless them.

And I am talking with some very strong Arizona Republicans

The same ones who keep voting McCain in time after time?

Texas Republicans that I talk to haven't been talking about cutting and running.

There were more than three. The rest of them took off after the original hit and run raiders, leaving the three at the checkpoint. Whereupon the second wave hit. It's called a feigned withdrawal, and it's literally one of the oldest tricks in the book--it was ancient when the Romans used it. And it still works, unless your troops have iron discipline.
