Pass the Prozac to the Democrats
Chron Watch ^ | 16 June 2006 | Barbara J. Stock

This has not been a good week for the Democrats. First, word came that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the most recent “Butcher of Baghdad,” had been killed and now the liberals must deal with the decision of special prosecutor Fitzgerald not to charge Karl Rove in the Valerie Plame “leak” case. All things considered, there has not been much good news for the far-left bloggers to crow about.

The death of Zarqawi left some liberals trying to walk the tightrope of attempting to appear happy while maintaining their theme of doom and gloom for the Republicans.

There were a couple of exceptional responses from the “progressives” that should be spotlighted for their creative effort.

While John Kerry’s loyal followers continue to whine on the blogs about how Ohio was stolen from Kerry by the evil right-wing-election-stealing-conspiracy, Senator Kerry continues to make irrelevant statements. Tossing logic aside, Kerry stated that the death of Zarqawi was: "another sign that it's time for Iraqis to stand up for Iraq ... and run their own country." Now, had the Iraqis killed Zarqawi and not American pilots flying American F-16’s who dropped two American 500 pound bombs on his head, one might be able to say the Iraqi military is ready to stand on its own.

Apparently wanting to keep his face on television, the infamous our-Marines-killed-in-cold-blood John Murtha said that the death of Zarqawi would "have a significant impact in reducing the amount of violence in Iraq." Explosions could be heard all over Baghdad in celebration of John Murtha’s statement. What is amazing is that Murtha, before getting all the facts of Zarqawi’s death, didn’t rush to a microphone to declare that innocent people had been murdered by American pilots.

Neither Kerry nor Murtha held a candle to the remarks of Representative Jane Harman. (D-Calif.) Ms. Harman’s statement was worthy of an Olympic gold medal.

Harman deftly executed a full gainer with a one-and-a-half twist when she began with, "I don't think we're succeeding militarily,” and gracefully moved to stating that the death of Zarqawi was, “wonderful police work,” and entered the water barely causing a ripple with, “Rumsfeld should go.” Harman finished with a strong 8.8 showing a high degree of difficulty when she concluded with: "We kill one person, ten arise. That's just not the strategy that can work." So, is she saying we shouldn’t have killed Zarqawi? If her Sorcerer’s Apprentice theory is true, do we really want to kill bin Laden?

Barely having time to recover from the demise of Zarqawi, the leftists were dumbstruck by the news that Karl Rove will not be “crab-walked” out of the White House in handcuffs by federal marshals. This was devastating news for the leftists. The reports echoed around the liberal blogs and the far-left bloggers were horrified.

At first, the leftist bloggers were in total denial, then, scrambling to make sense of what they believed was a done-deal, many began to soothe their frayed nerves by convincing themselves that Rove got off because he “flipped” on Vice President Cheney. Yes, they told each other, that must be the answer. Instead of Rove, whom they were now calling a “small fish,” they would be served up Dick Cheney instead. With that idea firmly implanted in their minds, they went from the depths of despair to jubilation.

Of course, no one who is thinking clearly would actually believe that Karl Rove would buy his way out of trouble by “flipping” his testimony on the vice president of the United States. But logic aside, the leftist bloggers have calmed themselves by believing this fairy-tale.

Senator Schumer of New York rushed to a microphone to demand that Fitzgerald release his findings and explain exactly how the special council came to this decision. Visibly angered by the report, Schumer proceeded to demand that Fitzgerald break the law. Such a report cannot be released and Schumer probably knows that, but most people do not. When the report is not forthcoming, liberals will claim that Bush had it suppressed to “cover-up” Rove guilt, and most Americans will be none the wiser.

President Bush pushed liberals to edge when he made a surprise appearance in Iraq. Iraq’s prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki was awaiting a video-phone conference with President Bush when he was informed that the American president was in the building. Bush didn’t summon the Iraqi prime minister to Washington; Bush came to him. Their first meeting was on Iraqi soil. This was not missed by many Iraqis who praised Bush for taking the time and the risk to come to them and meet with the Iraqi leader himself. It was a sign of respect for Iraq and its new government.

The New York Times, oblivious to the importance of this presidential visit, declared the trip nothing more than a “publicity stunt.” How sad it is that the Old Gray Lady has become so biased and bitter.

What has become apparent is that there is nothing new about the “new progressive” party in America. Democrats can try to change their name but they have not changed their image. They have become angry and they have become the party of doom and gloom and seem to believe that if they convince enough people that the end of world will come if they are not put back in power, a terrified electorate will stampede to the voting booths to toss Republicans out of office.

Instead of being a party of ideas, the Democrats have become the Chicken-Little Party of depression. The liberal bloggers, their fury overflowing, will do whatever they must to cling to the hope that there will be Democratic sweep in November. If it doesn’t happen, there will be the usual accusations of stolen elections. But have no fear, they will re-group and start looking for dirt on whomever wins the Republican nomination. If they can’t find any, they will just do what they usually do: start rumors, declare the eight years of George Bush the worst America has ever suffered through, and double their doses of Prozac.

Last night the Vice-Chair of the DNC said that our forces "murdered" Zarkawi. These people are nutz.

A good explanation of why the Dems simply can't take advantage of the Republican problems. All they need is some kind of coherent set of ideas the average American can get behind, but they are so hogtied by their conflicting loyalties to different interest groups they can do nothing except say "We're not the Republicans."

Libs just love to be miserable. Without anything to whine or protest about, their lives would be meaningless.

Well, that, and their abject laziness. They could come up with alternate solutions, but it's so much easier to just keep lobbing mudballs at Republicans. The 'Rats today seem to be stuck not only on "stupid," but also "viciousness."

I agree, They need a heavy dose of Thorazine IPO Prozac. Then sit them quietly, drooling in a corner while the adults clean up Slick Willy's messes.

They're so lazy they can't even get to the "stupid" part, they're just stuck on "stuck". :)

It's not laziness, it's paradox. They can't say what they really think without letting the country know they are a bunch of socialist surrender monkeys. So they have to keep twisting their own words to avoid their true meaning. Which leads to the paradox of trying to have a message and conceal a message at the same time. You can fool some of the people...

Don't forget this biggie------ Cong Dollar Bill Jefferson (D-LA) was thrown off Ways and Means for corruption, and is under several investigations for having 90 large ones in his freezer, and taking bribes from a Nigerian. Jefferson's got the feds crawling over him like he's sitting on an ant hill.

...they are so hogtied by their conflicting loyalties to different interest groups they can do nothing except say "We're not the Republicans."

They are a party built on an electoral strategy to gain power, not on a set of principles or ideas that they can safely articulate without alienating more than half of the constituency they've managed to convince to join them.  It's so obvious to the casual political observer, yet their leaders have either utterly failed to see it or they are in complete denial.  I think it's the latter.

Democrats Announce their 'Contract with America'

June 15, 2006

Remembering how Newt Gingrich's 1994 "Contract with America" helped
Republicans end 40 years of Democrat domination in the House of
Representatives, leading Democrats have announced their own version. Called
"Six in '06," the Democrats' contract has six planks:

(1) A congressional pay increase, also known as the "William Jefferson plank." "Representative Jefferson was forced to take on a role of a corrupt politician in what he thought was an independent film, but turned out to be
an FBI sting operation," said House Minority Leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif). "If members of congress were paid a decent salary, this type of tragedy could have been averted." (Senators and Representatives currently
receive salaries of $162,100 per year.)

(2) Nationalizing health care. "Our medical care is a mess," said Senator Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y). "America's health is too important to be left up to the medical profession. It's time for the government to take control to ensure a more rational and equitable distribution of benefits."

(3) Impeaching President Bush. "Republicans impeached President Clinton for
diddling an intern," said Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich). "It'll be payback time
once we get the majority."

(4) Increasing taxes. "Republicans want voters to believe that lower taxes encourage investment and hard work," said Senator Minority Leader, Harry Reid (D-Nev.). "We say IRS audits and the threat of going to jail is all the encouragement required to make people work hard. Congress will do the investing once we restore the revenues given away by the Bush tax cuts."

(5) End the war on terror. "No matter how brave our soldiers are, no matter how valiant, no matter what their caring," said Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass). "Our soldiers cannot bring democracy to Iraq at the barrel of a gun. Some on the right use the fact that U.S. troops were able to defeat tyranny in World War II and bring democracy to Germany and Japan to try to support President Bush's ambitions for Iraq. But those were different times. We had a Democratic president, bipartisan support for the war effort, a cooperative media, and grateful foreign allies. Due to an unfortunate decision by too many voters in 2004, none of these key factors are present in the current crisis. Until that decision is reversed there is no hope. So, let's bring the troops home and end the bloodshed."

(6) "Wild card." "We really wanted to have six key issues-you know, six for 2006-but we couldn't agree on what the last item would be," said Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. "Some wanted recognition of gay marriage, others suggested a law guaranteeing every woman's right to an abortion. So, we're keeping one slot open. Voters can fill-in the blank with whatever they want. On the other hand, there is this 'feces for fascists' idea coming out of Colorado that represents the kind of fresh
ideas our party needs. Eventually, maybe we'll get some focus groups together to figure out where our Party stands on some issue or other."

It's expected that Democratic candidates would stage some kind of televised signing ceremony as Newt Gingrich and the Republicans did in 1994. House Democrats are expected to pledge to enact all six items within six months of taking back the majority in congress.
