Tourism Commission Looks to Woo Gay Couples to Canada Josh Pringle Friday, June 16, 2006

The Canadian Tourism Commission wants to attract same-sex couples to Canada.

The agency has launched an advertising blitz in the United States to woo gay couples to tie the knot in Canada.

If you want to express your objections:

I encourage Americans to write as well. You just know American gay couples will use this to get their unions acknowledged by American courts.

It points to a government that does not seem to be able to set its own agenda.

I think that's because the CPC doesn't have an overall majority, thus it can't always set it's own agenda - I'm an Irishman, Ireland is a multiparty political system - no party has had an overall majority in 25 years, thus no party here has everything their own way.

The Canadian Tourism Commission is not a governing body and has nothing to do with the Canadian government's agenda . The CTC is doing it's job,

"the mission of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) is to increase awareness of and interest in Canada as a premiere four-season tourism destination."

There is no difference between Vermont promoting assess to civil unions or the CTC ssm . Different name . Same thing.

"it can't always set it's own agenda"

I am not at all in disagreement with that point. So, it is especially important that added emphasis be stressed in respect of what the government values. At the very least, you would expect the leader to step forward and express some concern in regard to the overall message that is being conveyed. Canada, in many places, is being portrayed as a haven for terrorists. So, rather than our hearing about a strategy to combat that image and situation, we hear Canada wants to recruit gay tourists. For the life of me, I don't understand that I appear to be the only one who sees this as a problem.

Still, this article is about the Canadian Tourism Commision, not the Canadian government.

But, one can only wonder about the content of the half full glass. Is the content harmless or dangerous?

I went to the Canadian Tourism Commission site and read the "CTC about us" description. You are right, they are a mixture of private sector, tourism and government concerns. Actually it was a pretty neat web site. I thought as a Commission they would be like the FCC or the FTC.

My wife thinks I am an idiot. She wants me to do yard work, I told her what I was posting about and she remembered that I spent some time last week on the same subject. She thinks I am being unreasonable.

What does the Koran say about gay marriage?

Noooo, the Canadians are soooo tolerant, even the Muslim community will welcome these visitors. It won't matter...

I know what they do to adulterers: Bury them up to their necks and stone them to death.

Now that's just 'rumor'. Stories from the old country. Why that would never happen in a modern nation.

Actually, it will be almost fun to watch the clash. The Muslim Canadians outraged at the gay tourists.

And turnabout is fair play. If anyone's been to Maine, especially to the shore in the summer, it is quite common to see gay 'couples' from Canada, as noted by the Ontario and Quebec license plates and, for some, the French spoken.

List of gay towns and resort areas

Furthermore, several towns, particularly resorts, are known as primarily gay areas. They differ from gay villages in that they are generally self-governing municpalities and not enclaves within large cities. Some of the resort destinations (e.g., Provincetown, Key West) attract even more gay people (i.e., tourists) during the summer months.

* United States
o Asbury Park, New Jersey
o Cherry Grove, New York and Fire Island Pines, New York (on Fire Island)
o Guerneville, California (and much of the surrounding Russian River area)
o Key West, Florida
o New Hope, Pennsylvania/Lambertville, New Jersey
o Northampton, Massachusetts
o Ogunquit, Maine
o Palm Springs, California
o Provincetown, Massachusetts
o Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
o Saugatuck, Michigan

And when that got boring we could watch Canadian Baptist tourists outraged at American Muslim gays.

It seems to be a classical case of assimilation vs. multiculturism.
