Of course it helps when David Stern basically tells the refs that Mark Cuban is not to win an NBA title under any circumstances.

I don't know about that. Josh Howard could have wrapped the game up if he did not miss both free throws near the end.

But Wade was not even touched on that last play, at least certainly not by Dirk.

ok, but the fifth on shaq (this is the foul where howard missed both) was bogus too. it is just the mavs did not cash in the bad call.

----If you haven't put the ball in the fairway for the better part of two days, and you still have a 2 shot lead with only 3 holes left to play, then why in the hell are you pulling out anything bigger than a 3 iron on 17 or 18!!!! I know Bones is much too smart a caddie not to pull Phil aside when the cameras were not on them and say "we need 2 fairways right now. Somebody's got to catch us and we've got 2 shots to play with. Please for the love of God leave your driver in the bag!!!!!!" I'm very interested in knowing the thought processes there!!!

My thoughts too. Wonder if Bones will soon be looking to get on another bag.....

If the season finished today, he'd win player of the year. His swing is a mirror to Scott's and his short game is better.

His swing is actually shorter and more compact than Scott's. Adam Scott's swing is a bit longer, which makes sense, since Scott's taller, more muscular and has wider shoulders.

Ogilvy reminds me a little bit of Nick Price in his prime. Simple, repeatable swing, especially under pressure. Phil's -- and Monty's for that matter -- is very long on the back swing. Hell, on that last, stupid drive, Phil's driver head was pointing down at his right ankle on the backswing. Just incredibly stupid. That was painful to watch.

Monty must feel sick for that double he had on 18. So close yet again.

You could just see it in Monty's face that even though he was in the fairway at 18 that he was going to choke. He had 10 minutes to think about his shot -- as Johnny Miller pointed out -- and at the last second switched clubs. Even when he made the putt on 17, I think he kind of wished he didn't make it. He didn't want to have a real chance to win this tournament on the last hole, and he played like it.

Monty's double was just as bad as Phils becasue at least he hit his driver well.

Monty's double was worse than Phil's. How the hell does a pro make double from 165 yards out in the fairway? And his lag putt was atrocious. I don't care how difficult the greens are, you don't lag a 35-footer 10 feet past the hole! That's a putt a 15 handicapper would make, and his approach shot was a shot a 12 handicapper would make only half the time. Monty absolutely exploded, mentally.

Watch both of their swings again....it looks like Scott/Oglivy are twins. Oglivy did get a gift on 17 from the rough, but that's what it takes to win the US Open. I was worn out at the end of the 18th......This Open is why I'll drop my weekend duties to watch 6 hours of golf.

On the one hand, you have to admire Mickelson's play because he didn't really have any business being in contention after such errant driving. It's a testament to his shot making and short game.

OTOH, what the heck was he thinking on 18??????

Ok. I'll look at their swings again. But Oglivy's arms are thin little reeds while Scott's are muscular (though not as ridiculously muscular as Villegas -- he'll never win big with his body-shape obsession).

So my mental picture of their two strokes has Scott going much wider on the backswing. Maybe I'm wrong. Ogilvy does bomb it out there for such a little guy.

I was thinking the same thing with Oglivy....those arms are twigs. Scott has some muscle mass & you also said what I was thinking about Villegas from Columbia....maybe some Sammy Sosa pills.

The three Australians that are trend picks for majors (as far as Aussies go) have been Scott, Applebee and Hensby....Oglivy sort of came under the radar. One of the analysts from Golf web picked him though.

Off to the British & I hope it was exciting as the US Open. I enjoy watching a course eat these guys lunch....may the last one to survive win.
