A great deal of the time, historic sites are run with a combination of private donations, trusts/endowments and profits from visitors/gift shops.

Yes, I know. Let's change that from a "great deal of time" to all the time and we will be within the confines of the Constitution.

I'm a government-is-the-problem kind of person myself. But I do believe preserving our history is very important.

I'm heavily involved with trying to preserve a historic site in the town I live in. We raise funds completely without taxpayer $$. We know the funds that are received come from people who truly care. It's nice to know they ARE out there.
