re: "Congress should establish a pool of $50 million to reimburse hospitals for the unpaid emergency care they provide to the poor and uninsured" )))

LOL! In one year, LA county spent $300M on uninsured emergency care for illegals.

One year, one county.

Been there. Done that. My darling wife was doing her aerobics in our living room and heard something go "pop" in her ankle followed by a bunch of pain. Took her in to North Austin/St. David's just in case she had torn a ligament instead of just the muscle.

Waited three hours. Most common language heard wasn't English.

Luckily, it wasn't anything that serious but the Doc assurd us that coming in to the ER after hours to get it checked was in fact the right thing to do. Our insurance covered the bill easily.

It's the foot in the door syndrome. Once they appropriate 50 million the program is in place, and the unions can start running ads showing poor hard working nurses demanding that the program be "fully funded".

Congress should establish a pool of $50 million to reimburse hospitals for the unpaid emergency care they provide to the poor and uninsured.

What Congress REALLY should do is DEMAND that the many billions of dollars these bloodsuckers are costing U.S. taxpayers be REIMBURSED by Senor Vicente Fox's "government". He should be sent a bill with a "last warning" on it.

Even better, let's elect a President who will actually enforce existing immigration laws, a man who will actually protect the Americans he promised to protect against invasion (and give Mexico a last notice to stop sending its poverty north).

It makes me sick how our own government continues to bow to Mexico, to encourage illegal immigration, to pander a third world dump without bothering to put up a fight.

Emergency care is about the only type that used to be good in American medicine.
For general health care best go somewhere else.

I agree. I called my daughter's PCP after hours hoping to get advise about a painkiller she was prescribed (broken arm!). The office was closed, but the message said, "If this is an emergency, dial 911". Gone are the days when the call would be routed to a night physician. Thank goodness my insurance carrier had a 24 hour nurse line.

Also, our PCP practice doesn't have an xray machine, so we've gotten to know our ER very well. More and more, the ER is the centralized diagnostic center.

Being sick is so much different than having an emergency.
