Front page effort to build name recognition for Webb in race against Allen. Lots more to follow from the Post, I'm sure.

Why am I calling to mind that "proverbial snowball in hell"? Give it up Mr. Webb. You don't have a chance.
I predict George Allen will get at least 53% of the vote.

George Allen is going to mop the floor with this guy. Webb is trying to harness the "anti-war" vote in Virginia (like that's going anywhere).
"Quite frankly, if you look at where we were before we went into Iraq and where we are now, we're certainly in a less safe world," -- Jim Webb 6/10/06
Jim Webb would rather have Saddam Hussein running Iraq than Prime Minister Maliki. Maybe he's trying to get the Ba'ath party endorsement.

Congress is overwhelmed by special interests and doesn't do enough for the little guy He's right about one thing... Congress is overwhelmed by special interests, and most of those special interests pretend to represent the interests of the little guy.
Which is part of the problem. Somewhere, somehow - Congress got involved in the business of the little guy, rather than the business of running a country. A country that is made up of 50 distinctive, and supposedly sovereign states, and a few hopelessly entitled territories.

He lasted exactly one year as Secretary of the Navy under Reagan and makes that his claim to fame.
However, he didn't get his pro-abort politics from Ronald Reagan.

Allen's going to skate by this guy and move on to the White House in 2008.

"It's time to welcome home those Democrats who left for a time, the Reagan Democrats, the conservative Democrats, whatever labels we give them," Webb said. "It's time to welcome them home." Not in Howard Dean's Democratic Party.

The Democrats think they've found the secret to winning this race in Virginia.
I predict Webb is going to be as successful as a hybrid of Wesley Clark and Bill McBride and will implode before fall. Allen wins with 60% of the vote.

James Webb is a good guy, a Patriot in the old fashioned sense of the word, and a Marine who saw combat in Vietnam. If he had run a Republican I would much rather have him in the Senate than Warner.
Unforunately Webb decided he need to take a stand for the honor of John Kerry, because Webb was offended by some of the attacks mocking Kerry's Purple Hearts.
Fortunately for the Republican Party, a candidate being a good guy, a Patriot in the old fashioned sense of the word is not the sort of thing that gets the Democrat base fired up these days, unless that is the candidate they are trying to defeat.

"I supported George Allen six years ago because I thought he'd provide leadership," Webb told a cheering crowd in a Crystal City hotel. "I'm still waiting for the first concrete example."I'll pass on the type of leadership Webb exhibited when he allowed Oliver Norths' White House job application to go through, even though Webb knew that North had omitted the fact that he had received psychiatric treatment, which was a felony.
Stick to writing books, Jim.

So he is running as a republican to gain a senate seat as a democrat. Yeah the democrats are real proud of their party.

I LIKED James Webb.
I wish Republicans and/or conservatives would stop trying to use (be used) by the MSM for their own personal advantage. If Webb has very high political aspirations, but has decided that he can't take Allen on in the primaries, he should move to some other state.
A conservative (?) Democrat running against a conservative Republican has a "no lose" quality, but seems overly clever and likely to backfire in the end.
