Howard Dean Supports Gay Tax Revolt
Sierra Times ^ | 6/13/64 | Jim Kouri, CPP

Posted on 06/13/2006 6:38:20 AM PDT by FerdieMurphy

Chairman of the Democrat National Committee Howard Dean is supporting Charles Merrill and his same-sex partner Kevin Boyle in their civil disobedience against paying Federal Income Tax because they cannot have the same tax benefits as heterosexual married couples.

But unless the two gay activists mention Dean's support and remarks in their statements and press releases, the mainstream news media aren't interested in letting Americans know about the Democrat leadership's position on the issue of gay and lesbian marriage.

According to the two gay activists, the momentum for the same-sex marriage tax protest started with a page six article in the New York Post and in an article on the Internet news organization WorldNetDaily.com in February 2006.

The articles covered how Merrill and his partner protested an anti-gay marriage amendment sponsored by President Bush.

Merrill said in a released statement, "As a result of nationwide publicity, we have had e-mails from hundreds of gay men and women from all over the country wanting to join us and asking how they could be a part of the gay tax protest."

Boyle added, "We gays will gladly pay our taxes once the government stops discriminating against us and passes laws that allows us to marry the person[sic] we love. We deserve the same Federal and State benefits as other married citizens."

Discrimination in the tax code also caught the attention of Howard Dean, chairman of the National Democratic Party. In a recent speech on June 3, 2006 to the gay political group National Stonewall Democrats' conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dean mentioned the outrage of gays and lesbians who are denied the benefits of marriage.

He is quoted as saying, "It is wrong for our tax code to be discriminatory. And it is wrong for any group of Americans to live in fear of hate crimes. We (Democrat Party) believe that every taxpayer should have the same government services and benefits as any other American."

Dean also said, "The fight continues, and the Democrat Party is standing with you by leading the fight against discrimination, and by helping you meet your electoral objectives this fall... ."

Then in true Howard Dean style of demonizing political opponents with unbridled hyperbole, he said, "We live in a time when this community and your families are the targets of meanspirited attacks by Republicans who put their own and their party's interests ahead of the national interest, when the President of the United States just this morning used his weekly radio address to endorse a Constitutional amendment that would introduce legalized discrimination in our Constitution. The Democrats will oppose that."

Strong stuff, but there was no mention of these statements by the elite media who instead focused on the conservatives' objections to gay marriage. Why are the majority of the members elite news media avoiding the reporting of Dean's -- or other Democrat leaders' -- comments. The media template is: Democrats are moderates; Republicans are extremists.

Here's another of Dean's statements in which he attempts to use scripture to make his point:

"While it is true that the Bible (largely the Old Testament) condemns homosexuality in a few places, it equally condemns eating shellfish. Jesus never mentions homosexuality. The bottom line is this: America is grappling with the discarding of old stereotypes about a group of people who have been part of our country since America has been a country. This is a painful process."

Dean rivals Senator Hillary Clinton in his use of the Bible to pull the wool over the eyes of the unwashed. And the news media helps him along.

Dear Editor,

Notice where we have gone in a few short years on homosexuals in America. At first, homosexuals wanted “tolerance” – they wanted to do as they pleased and for everyone just to leave them alone.

That shortly went to “acceptance” then to “forced indoctrination/education” and now finally to giving up our faith and morals and join them.

Marriage is the union of one man and one woman. If it is not that, it has no meaning. Marriage will mean nothing. The same arguments homosexuals use to be married are the same arguments polygamists and pedophiles will use to get married. Marriage is what it is or it has no meaning.

The traditional family is the building block of our society. Without strong families, society crumbles and America will eventually crumble.

The family had been under attack for the last 50 years from “do-gooders” in Washington, Harrisburg and Hollywood. I would say that is worth a few days of debate.

And polls do not show Americans “evenly” divided on homosexual marriage or unions. In 19 states, voters (the best pollsters) have soundly defeated homosexual marriage and homosexual union referendums by results from 60%-80%.

The Pennsylvania State House passed by a huge margin of 136-61 the beginnings of a referendum to protect marriage. Notice it wasn’t a bunch of unelected judges that tried to impose their will or ideas on society (like the Massachusetts Supreme Court that started this mess). The voice of the people has spoken through democratic means.

Regards,

2banana

What a dufuss. There is a married tax PENALTY in this country for two income earners. What a crook.

The radical, liberal Thugorats continue their quest for every low-life perverted vote they can muster. They would pander to Satan himself if they could get his vote.

I support rounding all these 'tax protesters' up and throwing their collective butts in jail.

Well, can I stop paying taxes, too, since I am not married, don't plan on marrying and can't marry myself for tax deductions?

Ah...nothing like the insanity of the USA (Democrats).

Gay males have the same right to marry women as do normal males. They just don't want to.

Traditional marriage is about dedication and sacrifice, raising children and adding to society.

"Gay marriage" is about free benefits, special rights and taking from society.

Dean got his math wrong - there is a Marriage Tax. But much better than proving his financial and tax flaws, he has handed the next Republican candidate an issue as delicious as Kerry's "I voted for the war before I voted against it." Ya gotta love that guy - keep it up, Chairman Dean.

Homosexual "marriage" is about a lot of things.

It's about public officials' supporting a foul, perverted sub-class of evil whose infamous "agenda" is working overtime to get their filthy hands on America's children.

They are substantially aided and abetted by many in America's Elite Political Class who see these perverts as willing accomplices in their desire to drag this nation further into the gutter.

The deluded "liberals" and "moderates" who are agenda sycophants, apparently see homosexuals somehow as a minority class when, in fact, they are amongst the bottom-feeding scavengers swimming along the sewers under polite society.

Forgotten, apparently, is the fact that these animals are breeders of disease and despair and fill the ranks of American history's serial killers and other assorted murderers.

And, as far as I'm concerned, the Log Cabin Republicans can take their logs and join the party to which they truly belong: the DP: The Death Party!

Since you have a 72 and a 52 year old involved, I'm betting one is vying for the other's survivor benefits...and a change in the 'gay marriage' laws would make that possible.

---That shortly went to “acceptance” then to “forced indoctrination/education” and now finally to giving up our faith and morals and join them. ---

That is exactly the heart of the matter. We are now not asked to be tolerant, or accepting, or empathetic. We are being asked to throw out Christian teaching that goes back to the very beginning of the church, and we're being asked to do it not after a long theological debate within our church and among ourselves, but because one of the left's special interest groups demands it.

In the morning they sit in the pews pretending to be there for the love of Jesus and in the evening they're laughing as Lewis Black denigrates Christian beliefs.

I wonder what hate crimes have to to with wanting the
favorable tax treatment..?

If they get away with this it'll be good new for all of us. Everybody can think of some justification for not paying taxes. If we all stop, the federal budget will shrink dramatically, the federal government will minimize, and it will save Western Civiliation.
