I came to this conclusion a while back and have been posting my thoughts on it regularly on this forum.
The behavior of our president and certain members of the US senate has been very confusing relative to the illegal immigration issue, but I believe I finally understand the underlying dynamic of the situation. Many people think the president and certain senators:
1) have a heart for illegal immigrants- WRONG! or
2) are reaching out to illegals and trying to build their respective voting constituencies for the future- MOSTLY WRONG!
The overarching truth is, in their worldview, it's a world of business and sovereign nations only serve to restrict business operations and ultimately, profits. Who needs borders? Free trade, cheap labor, and open borders for all! Yep, they're all one world government whores sold out to their big business constituents. That's the only explanation that is consistent with their actions over the last 20 years. In truth, they've all sold us down the river for big business and a one world government which will benefit.... you guessed it.... big business.
Quite true. And furthermore, a lot of these guys have also been brainwashed into believing that nationalism is the world's greatest evil, and that gradually doing away with nations is ultimately going to lead to the end of war for all time.
Needless to say they're a bunch of clueless idiots, but most of them really do believe this garbage.
In a world without borders the laws have to mesh and I doubt that means the rest of the world will gain free speech or gun ownership. Quite the opposite I'm afraid.
In the late 70s College classes were all focused on different aspects of "internationalism," in the sense that we are all one big interconnected economic world. The focus was that if we bind outselves with our business relationships, then we will be less likely to go to war.
I never understood why people so against capitalism impliedly endorsed it as a way to try to stop wars.
The main problem is that people of different nations have different political values and different ways of looking at the world. Very few nations think like the citizenry of the US. I think this is why the rest of the world is not as free.
I fear a gradual, very incremental mutual dependency with nations who will not recognize our sence of freedom. We will be dragged down to their level politically, legally, economically, and morally.
I think that the US will do by treaties what it could not do by constitutional amendments, all approved by the Senate, that will gradually erode our counstitutional rights. We will never be allowed to vote on this "Burkean accretions" which erode our rights.
I strongly agree with you. Our political leaders in both parties and in both the executive and legislative branches have prostituted themselves to global business conglomerates, to the detriment of freedom and health of this nation and its citizens. All for the idolatrous worship of the almighty dollar. Anything for a buck.
