Guest workers aren't cheap; they're expensive
Townhall.com ^ | 6/12/06 | Phyllis Schlafly

Posted on 06/12/2006 2:47:04 PM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

George W. Bush entered the White House in 2001 hoping he would be remembered in history books as the education president who raised public school standards with his No Child Left Behind Act. It now looks like his legacy will be "No illegal immigrant left behind."

The White House Web site is currently advertising, in both English and Spanish, Bush's congratulations (applaudo) to the U.S. Senate for passing what president called bipartisan (bipartidista) and comprehensive (integral) immigration reform (reforma). In fact, this Kennedy-McCain (aka Hagel-Martinez) bill might be the worst and the most expensive bill ever passed by the Senate, and it should be an embarrassment to any Republican who voted for it.

The media have reported on the sections that grant illegal residents amnesty (aka path to legalization or earned citizenship). But the media have censored out of their news reports the sections that are 10 to 20 times more costly and far more dishonest than playing games with the word amnesty.

In large print, the 795-page bill announces its "temporary guest worker" plan. Those words are lies because the fine print in the bill converts these workers, who are given H-2C visas, into permanent residents with the right to become citizens after five years.

The plan will start by importing 200,000 H-2C workers in the first year. The H-2Cers can immediately bring in their family members on H-4 visas, without any numeric limits and without being required to have a physical, and they will also get permanent legal residence and citizenship.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that this bill would import 7.8 million immigrants, and convert another 11 million current immigrants, legal and illegal, into U.S. citizens over the next decade. The Heritage Foundation estimates that 66 million new citizens will be added to the current population

It isn't the POTUS you have to worry about so much as idiot conservatives who think this is a good thing, including a bunch on FR.

I doubt Bush will ever get the message, but Phyllis Schlafly will keep speaking out.

They're cheap for their employers, who get to 'cost shift' their Social Security contributions (or the higher ones that would be made by Americans), their public school costs and their medical expenses to someone else.

Idiots who think this is a good thing aren't really conservatives.

Self explanatory.

The beginning of the end of our great Republic. Can anyone fathom the tax burden that 66 million people with an average grade school education would be?

If the government really is serious about identifying illegal immigrants, it soon will be provided a unique opportunity to record their whereabouts. All the Department of Homeland Security has to do is monitor the city-by-city television ratings of this month's World Cup soccer tournament. Agents should be dispatched to any area in which the ratings reflect an unnaturally high level of interest. That likely signals a concentrated pocket of illegals. No one who actually is from here cares about the most over-hyped, mind-numbingly boring event in the world. Nevertheless, ABC and ESPN will combine to broadcast all 64 games live and in high definition starting on Friday. High definition means that over the course of a 90-minute contest, both scoring chances can be viewed with crystal clarity.

Their employers get a break in the way of cheap labor and the taxpayers end up paying the rest of their costs (welfare, education, medical expenses).

That's part of what makes their labor so cheap.

Keep in mind the "11 million" is about 20 million too short.
There are a LOT more of them here then is talked about.
This effort, if its allowed to succeed will kill Social security and double the tax load, that alone is reason to stop this madness, just look at california, best most powerful and rich state, turning quickly into a basket case third world country/state. They must ALL go back to where they came from and can then apply for a visa

both (MISSED) scoring chances can be viewed with crystal clarity.

And the 0-0 match is settled by penalties.
Now that's a real sporting event!
(end sarcasm)

By the way, usajobs.opm.gov, the official website for jobs in the federal government, including the CIA, State Department, the armed forces, etc. is also in English and Spanish. If you can't read English well enough to navigate a website for job listings in the federal government, how are you qualified to do that job?

"GUEST" WORKERS EXPLAINED!! (from an email)

Since hearing the plan for treating illegal immigrants as "guest" workers, I now have undergone a complete reversal in my understanding of the proper meaning of the word.

I stupidly used to believe that the definition of "guest" is one who is invited. Now I'm told this is no longer correct.

For instance, if a burglar breaks into my home, he really becomes a guest who is only looking for a better life. Because he broke in for that reason, I must accept the obligation to provide health care, education, transportation and living quarters.

I feel so much better now.
