Sure. If the judge was a paper sillouette that was completely imobile. An AK would do the job then.

However, we are talking about a reactive target that would start falling with the first shot. 4 to the chest implies either a close range shot (to account for muzzle climb and target movement) at full auto or a pistol encounter within the building.

A good point. Perhaps he was seated when the shooting occurred? Then again, something like 30-06 or 308 hits pretty hard; he'd probably have come out of his chair anyway.

OTOH, it seems unlikely that someone could come inside the courthouse, shoot someone, and hide this long from law enforcement inside a building they are searching, unless he's former military.
