I'm not sure why he has to put up a sign. Why can't he just shrug and say, "I don't understand" (and not serve)?

Because he wants to be a bigger jerk than that. :~)

If California has an "Official English Law", why are all ballots printed in about 10 different languages, and as often as not official business is done in Spanish?

(Actually I think that it actually means that English is AN official language.)

He *does* have the "right to refuse service" sign. It's just below the "Speak English" sign.

That's what started this whole thing - someone thought the two went together - that if they couldn't order in English, they would be refused service.

Any business where the "public" can walk in and order a good or service is now considered public property.

The owner of that property is now a public servant who must run his business for the Marxist common good, as defined by the state. All decisions in that business made for individual benefit may be trumped at any time by the Marxist common good.

The Marxist common good shall be defined in any way and in any manner and at any time depending upon the mood of the politician or bureaucrat to achieve any goal he desires.

In the meantime, the business owner must continue to pay taxes, submit to rules made up by unelected bureaucrats and generally kiss the ass of any politician who demands it.

Failure to do so may cause that individual to lose his de facto private business that carries out the mandates of the Marxist common good.

Press 2 for Spanish, then proceed to speak English.

If I were unfortunate enough to live in Philly, I would eat at this guy's restaurant every day.
