Area leaders wary of border surveillance[Texas immigrant cams]
Victoria Advocate ^ | June 9, 2006 | Staff Report

Locals with a vested interest in the immigration issue spoke ill of Perry's proposal.

"I think it's a joke," said Kim Fromme, a Goliad resident and member of Texas Minutemen, a civilian border watch organization. "There's going to be too many false calls, false alarms. You're going to run the border patrol ragged, and they're ragged enough already."

Similar sentiments were expressed by Benny Martinez, a Goliad resident and a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens for more than 50 years.

"You don't know by looking at them sometime if they are illegal or not. You can't be sure all the time," Martinez said. "I don't know what kind of problems it's going to cause. It might be a bunch of chaos. I'm not sure that's going to work."

Even if more illegal immigrants can be located, federal and local authorities lack the infrastructure to do anything with them, said Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor.

"It's well and good to identify and detain, but you have to have the infrastructure," O'Connor said. "We don't have the infrastructure to process these people at this time. Surely the federal government doesn't."

Many sheriffs in South Texas away from the border who still deal with illegal immigrants feel they are being overlooked, said Goliad County Sheriff Robert De La Garza.

"We're still the main vein between here and Houston," De La Garza said. "They are just not focusing on us right now."

De La Garza and O'Connor are both members of the 14-county South Texas Coastal Sheriff's Alliance, an organization of sheriffs dealing with the immigration issue away from the border.

"You don't know by looking at them sometime if they are illegal or not." Well, if they are crossing the boarder on foot, at night and miles from the nearest road, they could just be lost tourists. Right?

It's a crime that our own President refuses to speak up in defense of our border patrol, our immigration laws, and our sovereignty.

He watches while this drama unfolds, refusing to speak up against the invading force while forcing America to pay for it. He's obviously in favor of illegal immigration and open borders rather than the citizens he swore to defend from invasion.

He has been a miserable failure on this issue, yet he continues to ignore the will of the American people in favor of his open borders puppetmasters.

We are experiencing a first in American history - American government-assisted invasion of America without a shot being fired in our defense.

Dumb and dumber! It is not as if the BP doesn't have access to the same cameras to check things out before boogieing out to the site.

Do they have the staff to monitor the added call load? What about the time delay getting someone on the right camera if the call volume is high? I am sure the Jokers, Lefties, and pro-illegal crowd, or coyote cartels won't make phony calls, to overload the monitoring staff.

Add that to well intentioned inexperienced people who will call in furry four legged creatures, vegetation blowing in the wind, etc. I've had more than one newbie on the border with me who thought they saw illegals, and there was nothing there.

Cameras will be stolen, disabled, or destroyed.

Pretty good strategy if your pro-illegal......

Just get as many concerned citizens as possible off the border, sitting in their homes watching the internet and dialing a bogus "Hotline" while the illegals swarm over the border and walk right past your house.
