I have posted this in FR before but it never hurts to remind people: if a fire ant bites you, use a roll-on deodorant that contains baking soda in it (such as Arm and Hammer). I've been using it for years now and, if used promptly, you won't have those annoying blisters the following day.

Thank you very much, I hadn't read that before. I'm sitting here looking at my right foot with several of those wunnerful fire ant blisters from three days ago. I'll follow your advice - and it better work!:D

I stepped in a mound of fire ants at the end of last summer. In seconds, they traveled up both my legs. I jumped into the lake to try and drown them.

After the hard blisters, came the ITCH...an itch that goes clear down to the bone and there is no relief.

For two weeks, the itch was unbearable. The only temporary relief I got was to take a HOT shower, as hot as I could stand it without scalding myself..and let the hot water aimed at each area of bites, bring the histamine's to the surface. Oh lord, it felt so good..

A hot shower three times a day for two weeks..and I promise you'll survive :)
