Denny Crane saying smart things has a deja vu quality for me. Didn’t that T.V. character suffer Alzheimer’s disease? This is like the father in All in the Family making a good, conservative point. The media trick here is to give good words to bad (at least somewhat bad) characters so as to poison the words. So sure, a man with Alzheimer's can say something conservative, or a racist can say something conservative. I guess I might have to settle for these crumbs from the table. The thing to watch for is the protagonist taking a conservative position. It doesn’t happen much anymore. One of my favorites is the Marshall from Gunsmoke. Something like: “Sorry boys, can’t do that. It’s the law.” And he means it too!
