Very true. Arab society in particular seems to have a particular affinity for believing the most outlandish stories, probably because throughout history they have never had anything remotely resembling a right to free speech or freedom of the press; ergo "news" serves whatever regime (and theocracy) is in place and is likely to be untrue.

Unfortunately, their imagination is the only thing they have more than sand.

Equally unfortunate is that they do not tend to use their imaginations in a constructive type of way. Just MHO.

Also factor clans and tribes into how truth/rumor/myth are dealt with. Your truth just might be very dependent on where your clan stands politically. Strong clans and a feeble media makes for news via rumor mongering
