Chafee Votes Against Death Tax Repeal

On Thursday, the Senate voted 57-41, short of the 60 votes needed, to end debate and proceed to a vote on the permanent repeal of the Death Tax. RINO Senator Lincoln Chafee was one of only two Republicans to vote the wrong way (George Voinovich of Ohio was the other).

This vote is yet another example of why the Club's PAC is working hard to hand Chafee a pink slip this September in Rhode Island's GOP primary.

In fact, Chafee's vote against Death Tax repeal is a clear example of how little he respects Rhode Island Republican voters. As you know, Thursday's vote is one in a long list that Chafee has cast in which he has alienated pro-growth conservatives in his state. Just this year alone, Chafee voted against extending the tax cuts on capital gains and dividends and announced his support for censuring the President. As the Wall Street Journal commented this morning, Chafee "sometimes seems to want to lose his primary this year."

We need you to help make that a reality. Please make a contribution to Chafee's opponent, Club PAC-endorsed candidate Steve Laffey, and show Chafee and his RINO buddies that an anti-growth record will get you into electoral hot water.

Now for some positive news about the vote. If Democrats who had either campaigned or voted for it before stuck to their prior positions, the vote would have passed.

We are also extremely proud of the role the Club's PAC and Club members played in getting the vote so close to success. Four freshmen Senators voted "YES" who were backed by the Club's PAC and beat candidates who wanted to keep the Death Tax.

We won't let up until we win this fight.

Have you seen any recent poll numbers on this primary race?

Chafee *is* a Republican. He is also an idiot.

But idiot or not, without him and a few other SO-CALLED RINOS, the Senate would be in control of the Democrats.

I would urge Freepers to consider how awful Congress would be *without* the so-called RINOS without whom we could not keep the majority.

"I would urge Freepers to consider how awful Congress would be *without* the so-called RINOS without whom we could not keep the majority."

As sad as that sounds, its 100% true.

In some liberal states/districts, a RINO is the best you can hope for. If they cross the isle and switch partys, they still vote the same way, however, without the majority in the House or Senate the things you want to have voted on will never get out of committee.

Until we gain a super majority in the Senate we can't afford to dump Senators that we can't replace with something better.

Its easy to get a RINO ousted in the primaries, but you then create an open seat that your dream conservative would likely lose to the RATS.

If the voters in the State/district wont elect a more Conservative candidate than the one you dumped, you just ate a big Ole box of stupid!

Chafee's voting behavior has been so egregiously traitorous to Republicans that he must be replaced. In his case, what is the point of working to keep him in office when he is essentially a reliable vote for Democrats. If the Senate were split more closely, what makes you think he would not do what Jeffords did and shift to Independent, votes with Democrats, status or to Democrat????

Chafee MUST be taught a lesson...one that might serve as an example to his RINO colleagues.

Chafee is bad, but we already knew that.

The more egregious phenomenon is that Arkansas voters continue to elect Senators Lincoln and Pryor, Louisiana elects Mary Landrieu, Florida elects Bill Nelson, and Ohio elects RINO George Voinovich.

The Republicans need to target these seats, and get these five out of the U.S. Senate.

Taxing dead people is the single most offensive tax of all.

The bigger question is why don't the people of all these states understand this?

"Chafee MUST be taught a lesson"

On another thread I was severly criticized for saying I will not vote for Chaffee in the primary even though I am sure Laffey will be defeated in the general election. But I have come up with a solution. I will be financially supporting real Republicans in other states that have a chance of unseating a Democrat.

Chaffee votes 90% with the Democrats. Heck, getting rid of him is no great loss and would be a shot across the bow to the other Senate RINOs.

Aren't you lucky to actually have the opportunity to vote against that piece of political slime. The likelihood is that Laffey MAY lose but the certainty is that Chafee WILL lose, Again, Chafee is completely untrustworthy and I have absolutely no doubt that he would morph into a RAT in a heartbeat if it were to his political advantage, even if it meant giving the Senate to the RATs. I certainly wouldn't want that SOB covering my back in any situation. Targeting him, specifically, for defeat will send a strong message to the other RINOs. Please do more than not vote for Chafee....vote for Laffey.
