Good for you! I taught my daughter to bake early on. Teachers kept telling me that they thought she should be tested for hyperactivity--forget the PC name for it. I just tried to keep her busy. Whenever she got too ansy, she would go in and bake. I enjoyed seeing her turn her energy to something constructive. But she never learned what your kids are learning. I think it's great! And she and her friend will have such pride in knowing that they can do things well that has significance for them and their families. Talk about self esteem! That was never an issue when kids were given tasks that their families depended on! I know that you aren't "depending" on your daughter, but she is doing something that contributes to the health and well being for her family. Pretty head stuff, actually!

Self esteem was never something I thought about, but you're right about that.

They told me what they wanted and they know that they have to deal with it. Yesterday they weeded the flower bed. I don't do floweres, but I bought them and the girls planted them, so they have to keep them weeded. The same goes for the watermelons and pumpkins they want to grow. They have to hep maintain the patch.
