DUARTE, Calif. -- A billboard seeking to encourage the public to call Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., to persuade her to support legislation intended to reduce illegal immigration was unveiled Thursday by an online group.
The billboard, located adjacent to the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Duarte, has an outline of the U.S.-Mexico border, the phrases "Stop The Invasion" and "Secure Our Borders" and the telephone number of Boxer's Los Angeles office.
The billboard was rented by funds donated by California members of the online group Grassfire.org, according to Steve Elliott, its founder and president.
"This is an invasion that American citizens have brought upon themselves by not demanding that our laws be enforced and not demanding that our borders be secured," Elliott said. "I'm the son of a Jamaican immigrant. We don't blame anybody who's coming here. This is a problem that the American people have created. We're now asking our leaders in Congress to solve this problem by securing our borders and enforcing our laws."
John Trasvina, interim president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, accused Grassfire.org of hypocrisy.
Grassfire.org plans to unveil a similar billboard in San Diego with the office telephone number of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Elliott said. Other billboards have been erected in Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Phoenix and West Virginia, according to Elliott.
Boxer's number is a nice touch.
Read on a local San diego new site (can't recall which one)..that this billboard had been put up in South San Diego County....and hispanics were NOT pleased, LOL.........
Great minds think alike :)
Stop the Invasion INDEED!
It says "Secure Our Borders." Pretty plain to me.
Wonderful.
Boxerface and Unfinstein both deserve such in tsunami proportions.
Talk about INVASION!!! I can't believe it - I'm watching FOX News tonite, and a commercial comes on and IT'S ALL IN SPANISH! Then, watching HGTV later, a STARZ commercial comes on, again, all in Spanish! What the heck is going on???? Don't we have enough Spanish stations - now we have to have Spanish only on our regular stations? This happen to anyone else yet?
Excellent post,...I'll have to add it to my profile...thanks.
The trouble is that no one quite sees that the very best thing we could do for Mexico is to send their now well trained citizens home.
Suddenly Mexico would have a skilled workforce who knew something about how a world class country worked.
Think these folk would propel a great leap forward for Mexico?
I do.
I noticed that lately too. About 2-3 times a day now, on regular channels, we get commercials in Spanish. Really tees me off!
