And the Speaker of the House? AWOL as usual...but then again, this isn't about Jefferson.

This is truly mind-boggling, the double-standards here.

I for one would just wish the Republicans would go nuclear on the Dems for a change and stop fighting like an organized British regimen against the Minutemen shooting behind trees and rocks.

This is really a state matter. Nevertheless, if it were federal, Hastert would be too busy suing the White House, covering for a caught-dead-to-rights felon, giving Jefferson cover for ignoring a federal subpoena for nine friggin' months!

I don't understand. How do you expect Hastert to influence a judicial decision?

Hey, a bigger principle was at stake there -- the right for a Congressman to be secure in his bribe-taking.

Apparently the only issue that's of enough consequence to wake the slumbering Speaker is bribes, and Hastert actually does have a position -- he's all for 'em.

If DeLay had wanted Denny to back him up, he should have actually committed some crimes. Instead, he's slinking off to the showers under this bogus charge, while Hastert is straining to obstruct justice in the Jefferson case.

The GOP incumbents are acting like it's way more important to keep the personal gravy train rolling than it is to hang onto the majority. It's almost like Hastert has done the math and figures he'd have just as much cash coming in under the table as minority leader.

Got two more solicitations for funds from the Senatorial Campaign Committee this week. Both went in the bin. They're being paid enough by somebody else, and whoever it is, is paying in pesos.
