Yes, it is an important issue, because Bush is throwing his weight behind it to attempt to get the House to go along with the Senate.

Any bill out of the conference may be a whole new creature but it will still be very bad for this country if it approaches any of the provisions in the Senate bill.

I challenge you - name me one provision in the Senate bill which meets your approval, and tell me how it will be enforced such that it meets the criteria "all equal under the law".

I'll start - the few miles of border fence. Did you know it will only be built if we get the agreement of Mexico's government ?

Your turn.

"CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT.--Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concer"

From my understanding that is the requirement. It says nothing about in the end having to get approval. It talks about consulting thats all. That sort of makes sense beauce you do have border town's economic interest and animal migration issues. For instance, the issues of where points of entry would be. Again it consultaion not approval. Fences might make good neighbors but when I built my Fence I "consulted: with my neighbor. Where the water lines were, the fact that in certain areas a view could be obstructed and so on. I didn't have to do it but it was the "Neighborly" thing to do

Didn't you know the NG are already there and have already started installing it. Perhaps you conveniently ignored the pictures posted here on FR of that so you could keep on with your bitching.

Just doing the praying...

I'd better stop before the infamous "Comment removed by Moderator" post appears.

The Senate bill is exactly that.....the Senate bill. It's NOT what President bush suggested or what he's proposing.

The system isn't fixed -- the system is broken because we've got too many citizens, too many people here, too many people living in our country, living in the shadows of our society beyond the reach of the law.

Diagram that sentence and win a prize.

Isn't it great that the President offers the presence of large numbers of illegals, many of who entered on his watch, as a justification for amnesty.

In other words..."I let the problem get so bad, that now Amnesty is the only solution".

Wretched.

Well its not lol. It just sort of bugs me thats all. I know that the word "amnesty" has a negative meaning with most voters and I know thats why its used. But in reality its not Amnesty. Again it can be called a plea deal or even a preference I suppose but it seems to misuse the word. This is the "rights" version of Medicare cuts. For instance when Conservative are often of cutting Medicare. Well what that are usually doing is trying to reduce the future growth of Medicare as to inflation. Is it a cut- Of course not but the media and the talking heads say its a cut. So in my view the word "amnesty" is the rights version of Mediscare. Its effective in a political marketing way but is still misleading.

""but when I built my Fence I "consulted: with my neighbor. Where the water lines were, the fact that in certain areas a view could be obstructed and so on. I didn't have to do it but it was the "Neighborly" thing to do""

false analogy. Think and try again.

Uh, I think that the people he was meeting with today were not a batch of illegals. Can you at least concede that not every Hispanic here is illegal? And before you jump up and respond, you went right to illegals, I didn't.

No, it isn't. If the GOP is going to be the party of white people then we can kiss it good bye.

There are many here to don't understand that the Hispanic bloc is going to go overwhelmingly democrat and the outcome will be a democrat majority. Bush can try to keep them Republican or lose them completely.

This is a group that we can win or least get a good percentage of the vote. Progress has been made thats for sure. We have a couple of major Social Conservative Republicans(Gov Huckabee of Arkansas and Senator Brownback) who will probally run that are well liked by the Hispanic community. So hopefully that will help.

If you think Huckabee stands a prayer of being elected POTUS, you are totally clueless.

I don't think so. In fact some liberal blogs have mentioned that he is one to fear. He has a great record as Governor of Arkansas. BTW he is from Hope too, I can just imagine the fun of using that against Hillary Clinton. He is good on the stump too.
I suggest go here and look at some of these links and what people are saying about him. Both Huckabee and Brownback have a bunch of conservatives that are begging them to run. Huckabee could pull it off I think. I say that as someone that will probaly support Brownback in the Primary.

http://mikehuckabeepresident2008.blogspot.com/

In my view he has just as much chance as Romney at this point. But more important he is a fresh face. Again, I am really leaning toward Brownback but I could cross over to Huckabee if he ,Brownback ,didnt catch on.

I live in Arkansas. As Governor he is pro illegal immigration.

That means he's for open borders, free medical care, free prenatal care, instate tuition for illegals, etc. Most Arkies have had enough of Illegals.
