The Hispanic voting bloc is a substantial one. People can say what they want about Bush but he's certainly trying to keep them interested in voting Republican. Considering that the black vote goes overwhelmingly to the democrats, losing the Hispanic vote to the Dems will mean the Republicans will be the minority party for years to come.

But I want our fellow citizens to understand, you cannot secure our borders, and you cannot be a compassionate society unless we provide a legal channel for people to work in America. Mr. President, we do have a legal immigration system today and your duty is to act in the best interest of the citizens not the illegal aliens. No amnesty. Control the border with a wall and enforce the laws.

Bush positioned the Republican party as the party of familiy and religious values. Should he go to a Hispanic prayer breakfast and talk about illegals?

Well it would have been strange if he had not brought the topic up lol. I wonder if Governor Huckabee was there. I hope so.

Bush holds deep religious beliefs and the heavily Catholic Hispanic bloc is very much in synch with his on a lot of issues. Religious values are what got him elected last time around so he's not going to ignore those groups.
The term is called "Hispandering".

Except for this : But I want our fellow citizens to understand, you cannot secure our borders, and you cannot be a compassionate society unless we provide a legal channel for people to work in America.
We can't secure our borders unless we offer amnesty ? I call BS on this.

That doesn't matter...he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
The system isn't fixed -- the system is broken because we've got too many citizens, too many people here, too many people living in our country, living in the shadows of our society beyond the reach of the law.Diagram that sentence and win a prize.
That's not -- that's not -- that's not the America I know.
It's not -- it's not -- it's not the America I know, either.

"Bush holds deep religious beliefs and the heavily Catholic Hispanic bloc is very much in synch with his on a lot of issues. Religious values are what got him elected..."
Only trouble is... these illegals are not behaving as Christians, Catholic or not, since their mere presence here is an overt criminal act. Second, stealing tax money from Americans is also not a Christian act (they probably know about "Thou shalt not steal.") If they're willing to steal, disregarding a core Christian tenet, Jorge's religiosity isn't going to impress them. They're criminals, they're thiefs, and they're going to vote Democrat.
