American soldiers shouldn't be singled out and especially blamed for their part in this ugly phenomenon, but some of them very clearly have blood on their hands.

You are a complete tool. But, oh my, what a reasoned and enlightened response you've given. You're just so progressive.

I hope you meet up with a bunch of Rangers or Marines on the street someday - try and impress them with your BS liberal spin.

I don't doubt that some atrocities may have occurred. If the NYPD can have corrupt cops and cops who bend the rules (the Abner Louima case), the military, which is ten times as large, will certainly have some. In addition, under the difficult conditions (relative to cops, not other wars, some of which have been far tougher) where our guys have to operate, it would be surprising if they hadn't momentarily lost control or simply engaged Iraqis outside of the rules of engagement.

Having said that, I really don't have any sympathy for the enemy civilians who were killed, even if they were in fact civilians massacred by our guys. They stood by as enemy combatants planted mines to kill GI's. Nixon pardoned Calley, who carried out the My Lai massacre during the Johnson administration. I think even if the GI's in Haditha are convicted, GWB should pardon them. (I'm jumping the gun, of course - Haditha may simply be a smear job).

Is this tribal of me? Heck, yes. It's in direct response to the tribalism of the rest of the world. I believe in reciprocity.
