Yes, "We the People" are the source of power and we do have inalienable rights. Read the Constitution. The problem is today that too many of us are willing to accept what the government decides without protest. We are powerless only if we accept that role foisted on us by those that govern.

The people aka we can and do express our will. Harriet Miers withdrew herself from consideration to be a SC Justice. The Dubai ports deal was killed. The civil rights movement was not led by politicians. They followed. The will of the people can affect issues and the way our representatives vote.
