Since I am not the author, I don't know what prompted the use of one word over another. I have no problem demanding things from the people who are supposed to be our elected public servants feeding at the public trough and for the most part, should reflect the views of most of their constituents. The ballot box and possible recall are the only ways the electorate can hold their representatives accountable.
A wish list seems to put the person/group in the posiition of being a supplicant, dependent on others to grant their desires or not. Demands reverse that position of power.
Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church door at Wittenberg University in Saxony. The Declaration of Independence wasn't a wish list nor did the Magna Carta arise from a wish list. We should be demading what we want from our government and our representatives. We are the source of power, not them.
Let me know when "we" have a list of demands that everyone is happy with...of course Baghdad will be know for it's great snow skiing long before that happens.
Yes, "We the People" are the source of power and we do have inalienable rights. Read the Constitution. The problem is today that too many of us are willing to accept what the government decides without protest. We are powerless only if we accept that role foisted on us by those that govern.
Let me know when "we" have a list of demands that everyone is happy with...of course Baghdad will be know for it's great snow skiing long before that happens.
The people aka we can and do express our will. Harriet Miers withdrew herself from consideration to be a SC Justice. The Dubai ports deal was killed. The civil rights movement was not led by politicians. They followed. The will of the people can affect issues and the way our representatives vote.
LOL! "We" are not the "demands" of a few. Strange how that works isn't it.
A few can become many. Less than one third of the American colonists supported the Revolution. Great movements almost always starts out with a "few."
Not when they all have demands and are unwilling to accept the fact that not every voter shares their opinions and priorities.
"Only those will a clean record, employment, and positive plan with an attitude of assimilation will be allowed to take a course in Americanism, forced to learn English, and allowed to stay."
There isn't one that has a clean record, THEY ALL CAME HERE ILLEGALY OR OVERSTAYED VISAS.
Never allow any of them any rights or green cards!
Pass a law thaat all federal funds to a state are eliminated if any social services are given to illegals.
Add: Pass a law thaat all federal funds to a state are eliminated if any social services are given to illegals to your #6.
Great suggestion! Thanks for that.
Individuals can and do make a difference. I really don't care if you take umbrage that many of us are demanding that our government enforce its immigration laws and secure our borders. That's its function. I'll be damned if we must hand them a "wish list" of what needs to be done. Groups like the Minutemen have brought this issue up to the public front and center. They are not Casper Milquetoast types that you seem to prefer. Go along to get along.
We have had hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens marching through our streets demanding their rights and chanting, "Today we march, tommorrow we vote." Government authorities did absolutely nothing to apprehend these law breakers who marched brazenly in full view without fear of being deported. We have Dem senators and RINOs that want to reward illegal behavior and grant them citizenship.
If the majority is not in agreement with those of us who are dmeanding that our government enforce its laws, then so be it. But those of us who stand on principle need not take a poll before speaking out or wring our hands and fret over whether we should call our demands a "wish list" or not for fear of offending someone.
It has absolutely nothing to do with being "unwilling to accept the fact that not every voter shares their opinions and priorities." Hell, only about 50% of the people even bother to vote, which means that a little more than 25% of the people determine how we proceed as a nation. Frankly, I don't give a damn what you think.
Umbrage?
Umbrage?
I appreciate good humor.
"If the majority is not in agreement with those of us who are dmeanding that our government enforce its laws, then so be it."
LOL! And what if we "demand" they simply ignore you?
That is your right just as it is mine to speak out.
If "WE" demand they simply ignore you?" What do you mean by "we"? Do you have a mouse in your pocket? LOL. The Reps in the House get it. Enforcement first.
LOL! I've seen how brilliantly effective the parties of demands have been in our election process...always fun to watch.
ROFLOL. You mean like the Contract with America?
The Contract With America was hammered out by people with many different view points and priorities...it didn't spontaneously happen by a room full of people making their own demands.
It started with a few who had the leadership ability and political acumen to realize that a party had to stand for something and offer ideas that reasonated with the people. It was not "hammered out" by a bunch of limp wristed sensitive types who were concerned about the use of the word "demands" versus "wish list" so as not to offend someone.
You know, you really should check into things far more carefully. If you had read what Newt wrote you would find that he said he took at lot of work and compromise, but what would Newt know. But since you're so fond of the Contract With America, do you recall item #10 of the contract?
Try "Contract With America" in Google...it will pop right up.
