What's a little thing like facts got to do with feelings?

"Lawyers Martha McCarthy and Joanna Radbord, who represented the applicants, said yesterday that the case held enormous symbolic value for the gay and lesbian community."

Emphasis on the word 'symbolic'. Its always symbols over substance with these moron liberals twisting and deviating from the truth. Turn your backs to God and His tenets at your own foolish risks.

My, my. This homosexual marriage thing seems to get more and more complicated, doesn't it.

Just wait 'till we start having kids cloned in a cupcake pan.

It'll happen. Hope I've gone by then!

"Mother" is a biological FACT...not a social construct.

That seems clear -- however, what about a case where the egg from one woman is implanted in the womb of another?

If two's good, why three or four?

Birth certificates: no longer a historical record, now just a pretty piece of paper. They should start offering them now in a variety of pastel colors.

Hope the *Father* figure realizes this makes them financially responsible for the child.

Well Johnny, since you asked, your egg donor was Ayisha, the sperm donor was Harold, I think,.....and you were carried by what's her name, but Bruce and I have been your father and your father since the very beginning.

We're going to have to see just how many of these kids involved in "experimental adoptions" are going to feel comfortable and open as they speak to their school chums about their "parents." I'm more confident we're going to have a whole new slew of psychotic teens rambling through school and beyond.

I have the feeling that they will form a new political activist group that will rebel strongly against this type of nonsense. 20 years from now, they will be having meetings, organizing rallies and having speeches about how horrible this same sex marriage stuff really is. They will have learned the political activist ropes from their 'parents' and will rebel, as many kids do, against their parents, but with some serious social ammunition.

God is discriminating against this poor woman. They better arrest Him. He should know there are laws in Canada about such things.

Because they're both the mom?

Why bother listing the parents at all if you're not going to know who the biological mother is?

Now this is not to say I am entirely comfortable with same-sex marriages with children and such...

But as an adopted child I look at it like this --

If a child is being raised by two people/parental figures then those people should be listed as the guardians/parents on an Amended Birth Certificate. In the case of something tragic like a car accident having authority to make decisions for someone's welfare is a concern. What if the listed parent were to die a horrible custody battle could be avoided if the other parent is listed. This is more a matter of a truthful legal document than a matter of morals at this point. And, we are speaking of things that could affect the well-being of a child -- let's make it as fair as we can for them. I see it as not much different when my adoptive parents names were put on my birth certificate.

This isn't a matter of gay rights, the birth certificate thing is more a matter of common sense and more about the child's rights, IMHO.

Just one more comment after I've read more of the responses to the thread...

A lot of people are complaining that the biological parents won't be listed. Does everyone on this thread realize that as an adopted child, NEITHER of the people listed are my biological parents? I don't get what bugs everyone about this, unless it's just the "gay" aspect of this.

"Falsified" birth certificates are a common daily occurance throughout the world. And, unless you are told you are adopted there is a chance you may never know that the people on your certificate are not your biological parents. At least the children of same-sex couples KNOWS right off the bat not to count on the genetic history as being truthful.

I for one am in favor of open birth records for adoptive children when they are of age, or earlier if there is a medical necessity, but that's not really what this thread is about.

"Lesbian mothers live in an atmosphere of homophobia that only is exacerbated when rules and conventions leave an impression that "there is something wrong or unnatural about their families,'' Judge Rivard said."

Um...

Might be a little late - the madness has already seeped in. Or maybe it originated here?
