I was not making any judgments on Diebold. I was merely pointing out that the left will blame this loss on Diebold.

I disagree. They were votes not needed, and were STRONG signal-senders to the Republicans that RINO crap will not be tolerated. You can bet McLame is looking at those numbers.

You must remember that Congressman Bilbray won in a district that is approximately 30 miles from the border. He must of received many Hispanic votes.

Good point. I know MANY Mexican-Americans, who have been here for decades, legally, and while I've never talked to them about it, I'd bet a dollar that they are appalled by the attempts by the illegals to steal what they rightfully earned.

Congressman Bilbray election was a vote of no confidence on CIRA and on the Presidents stance of immigration

"The district is one of the 10 wealthiest in California with median household income of about $65,000. The average home price is about $570,000 -- nearly $200,000 higher than the rest of the state. The population is about 62 percent white compared to 44 percent for California."

Even with those statistics he needed some Hispanic votes to win.

A third party candidate, two infact, DID get significant votes adding up to about 5% with Bilbray just shy of 50%.

Michael Barone finds this notable, and he is the acknowledged expert on elections. Check his blog.

BTW, conservatives were the ones that organized and pulled together for Bilbray. NOT because we fear Democrats in power or have revised our position, but because he was strong on the border. Without that he may well have lost. I am on record as stating he was too liberal on some issues for me, but immigration trumped everything and focused obsessively in the last weeks on winning this race for him because of it.

The increased siphoning of votes off to the Minutemen candidate, strong also on border, and the Libertarian candidate plus the loss of 2% turnout of Rep side (using Bush's 2004 totals as guide) indicates those of us that have been dismissed as unrepresentative of the public are infact bellweathers. Those polls on the side of FR are accurate. Folks are more inclined to stay home or vote third party then in 2004 with near unified support, and immigration saved Bilbray's butt.

Which he is the FIRST to acknowledge.

"BTW, conservatives were the ones that organized and pulled together for Bilbray. "

The heavily conservative candidate, who talks tougher on the border then Bilbray was the one who siphoned off the most votes from him.

http://www.williamgriffith.us/

There were over 4,000 conservatives who did NOT "pull together" for Bilbray.

And I thank God for them, because Bilbray WON and their presence makes it MORE difficult for people in the admin to rationalize this away as anything BUT a referemdum on illegal immigration and amnesty.

If you don't like their decision, blame the sources of their irritation. The admin/Senate. They voted for the person they felt secure would stay tough on the border, obviously the Senate/admin's position HURTS Republicans and Bilbray HIMSELF admitted it took awhile to convince people he could be trusted to secure the border because of it. Once he did, his campaign took off. Again, Bilbray stated this on record.

But ENOUGH of us helped Bilbray BECAUSE OF his position AND record on the issue in spite ofr Washington that he went from 15% in the primary to near 50% and won. Conservatives kept their word and had the back of the pro-enforcement candidate, now House Republicans know we'll back them up in killing the bill.

No - how about I blame THEM for their actions ?

They had the responsibility as voters to choose the candidate who would be our best representative - by voting for someone who had no chance of winning they ignored that responsibility.

Using your vote to send some kind of message instead only says that you feel there is NO difference whatsoever between the electable candidates, that none would serve your interests in the least.

Yes, I know blaming the actual elected leadership of the Republican Party for taking positions that HURT elected Republicans or hopeful elected Republicans is difficult for you to do.

It's always the voters fault. They are sheep, they are throwing tantrums. They are 1% that should be dismissed, mocked, ridiculed and blamed for any failure the Republican Party orchestrates.

When the Party nationalized the issue of WOT and it won elections, and people like Hagel benefited though they didn't deserve it...did you complain?

When the Party nationalized Judges and RINO's benefited in 2002 and 2004...did you complain? Of course not.

Because when the National Party takes a JUST position nationally and it helps Republicans across the country that's a GOOD thing. But when the leadership beginning with the President takes a position that depresses and alienates the base across the country endangering Republicans, well, that's not to their credit. Nope, it's all on the voters.

Bit of a double standard there.

Those voters DID send a message, and Bilbray's election sent a message. The result is that media outlets and folks in Washington are acknowledging the COMBINED totals as a referendum on illegal immigration, against the admin/Senate plan.

You can whine, complain and stomp your feet much as you like. No one was harmed, and the message ended up being stronger on account of their actions. Of course no one can guarentee such results everytime, but THIS time it worked out well and your attitude is absurd under the circumstances.

Can't rail against conservatives, because conservatives got him elected. Can't really successfully hate the Minutemen, though it's been attempted, because they didn't derail Bilbray. And you can't successfully blast the 3-4% because they strengthened the message we meant to send D.C. Well, I suppose on that last you can, but only if you SUPPORT the Prez's/Senate's plan. Then your anger is well understood, but if so it's been proven once again those of us protesting that plan are in the MAJORITY. The Reality may hurt those that supported the plan because a Republican authored it, just as reality hurts the Dems this morning.

Foolish statement - if you don't make dumb plays you CAN guarantee that YOU will not be the cause of things NOT working out well.

"Can't rail against conservatives, because conservatives got him elected."

Conservatives got him elected, but there were over 4,000 who did NOT care if he got elected - and they were willing to take the chance that Busby would have won instead, because as you say - "no one can guarentee such results everytime"

You have a problem with me railing against people who might have gotten Busby and the Dems in office ?

I disagree. They were votes not needed,

No one knew the outcome before hand, although only one vote more than Busby was needed, albeit there would have been a recount and we know what can happen there ...

When you don't stand against the Democrat traitors any excuse will do.

There is a time to make a protest vote. The message got through, loud and clear: not only was Bilbray considered the "anti-illegal" candidate, but the 5% above and beyond his vote was a warning shot across the bow of the McLamiacs.

It will prove very, very effective.
