It seems that gore actually did win in 2000 in Florida. You see, according to the tinfoil crowd, even though the NY Times WA Post, et al had headlines indicating that, had the recounts been done, that Bush won. But, buried in the seventh or eighth paragraphs was the truth that Gore really won, the media just didn't want anyone to notice it since after 9-11 it would have resulted in a change of government.
Now, I really don't claim to have read every word of those articles, but I'm fairly certain that if something that big was buried on page B25, someone by now would have been screaming it form the rooftops.
Revisionist history at work.
Oh, and as to polls, a few years ago I got another phone line in my house. For quite a while I got calls for "Walter". At first I thought nothing of it, but I bagan to ask who was calling. Quite often it was a polling firm, so I would play along to see what the gist was. Usually the polls were push polls trying to build up the Democrat candidate. I guess "Walter" was on the list of Democrats to poll. You can imagine the fun that resulted when I let them think that "Walter" was now somewhere to the right of the John Birch Society. The calls enede soonafter.
Finally, in my 30+ years of voting, I've never been polled, so how can an exit poll be 99+ percent accurate?

The newspaper-sponsored recounts were completed in the Spring of 2001, long before 9/11/01.
