Katherine Harris: Lack of support because I can't be controlled (BS SuperEgo alert!)

WEST PALM BEACH -- Katherine Harris thinks she knows why she's been shunned by her party leadership and shirked by big donors, and it has nothing to do with political platforms.

"Perhaps in some elite circles, the reason I have not gotten more support...is because they don't believe I can be controlled," Harris said today during a speech to the nonpartisan Forum Club of the Palm Beaches.

Harris, a two-term congresswoman who as secretary of state gained national notoriety for her role in the 2000 presidential recount that handed the race to George W. Bush, said she would not "kowtow" to the administration or her party.

In closing her hour-long speech, Harris thanked the crowd for attending.

"No matter if you're for me or against me, I just appreciate that you stayed and you listened," Harris said.

Nearly half the crowd had already left.

Katherine Harris manages to alienate 2/3 of the Republicans who were going to hold their noses and vote for her!

Next poll: <32%

.... and I thought Clayton (Satan) Williams (ran for Tx gov) was the worst candidate ever.

Hey, she did her job in 2000, now she is hung out to dry.
Go figure.

Tell me, why is speaking one's mind, and speaking the truth, indicative of a "Super Ego"?

She's right. Look what a skunk we got with Sen. Mel Martinez. He was the RINOs darling and is controlled by the blue bloods who lead him around by his nose.

She needs a "reality checker" on her campaign staff. From this it sounds like she has a lot of "Yes'm" people.

Nonsense. In my opinion, the reason is that too many partisans equate her with Bush 2000 and don't want to be seen with her. And they don't want the hypocrisy charge of defending her when she was Secretary of State, but casting her aside when she's no longer useful to them.

Note to Mrs Harris:

Although you can wear a pair of jeans more convincingly than any other member of Congress, please don't play the role of victim. It's not becoming for any man or woman of substance.

She did, and she fired them.

I'm just curious: does anyone else think she has a shot?

I think people are sick of incumbents and that Spaceman Bill is the ultimate incumbent. Harris would be as decent a nominee as any other GOP candidate this year, if anyone in the RNC gave a damn. Yet all I hear is griping about Harris, who has carried more water for the Bush family than the whole RINO chorus. They are eviscerating her. It's like she peed in their bath water--WTF?

Maybe she's a conservative or something. That would explain it.

Well, MindBender26, it appears that your mind is bent in the wrong direction. Perhaps you should get yourself another monicker or simply retire from the forum.

Here's the problem: if, in the unlikely event Katherine gets elected, she will not be an automatic "yes" vote for any Republican bill.

I think it is stupid for the Republicans (if she wins the primary) not to support her wholeheartedly.

This thinking in a circle is idiotic: "I won't support her because she can't win" is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But even without her party leadership's support, Harris has pressed on, announcing she would spend $10 million of her own money on the campaign when fundraising lagged. ,

Hey, she's plugging on and I can respect that. Here in Hawaii, the candidate jumps from the campaign s/he thinks is lost. Then they consider running for a different office a year or two later. I suppose they want it handed to them on a silver platter.

Just how many terms do you think he has served?

It sounds to me like there are many FR members who would rather see Nelson back up in Washington than Harris. Sounds kind of stupid to me to be supporting the enemy by bashing Harris.

"Just how many terms do you think he has served?"

Gosh, duh, I don't know...are you even FROM Florida? The man has been a constant presence in Florida politics since 1972. He is the consummate insider, and anyone who considers him a candidate Floridians view as a neophyte politician due to his single term in the Senate is a fool.
