If it looks like a duck...walks like a duck

Duck and Geese Differences

Ducks and Geese are both aquatic birds, hanging out in lakes and ponds. How are they different from each other?

Like just about any animal classification, there's a bit of arbitrariness over where the lines are drawn at any given time. Between ducks and geese, the line is mostly about size. Geese are large - think Canadian Geese -

Ducks are small, like mallard ducks -

Ducks usually eat fish and insects, while geese usually eat grains and grasses. However there are always exceptions to those rules. If you collect down, goose down has less odor than duck down does. Geese tend to have more webbing between their toes than ducks do.

***Geese are large - think Canadian Geese - ***

I'd rather NOT think about Canada geese, we have them in our neighborhood and they are NOISY when they fly in too early in the morning. By the way, it's Canada geese, not Canadian geese. I suspect the Canadians took their citizenship away from them.

Strange, though, since we have the American eagle, not an America eagle. Who knows?
