My glock has never, ever, not once made a loud noise when I didn't want it to. And, this being America, OF COURSE it's got a round in the chamber.

But, as Confucius says, there are only 2 kinds of people in the world -- those who have had an AD, and those who are going to have an AD.

Finally, there ain't nothing DA about the Glock action. You have to cock it before it will fire, and the trigger press does one thing, and one thing only: it releases the striker. Every other time we talk about a DA pistol, the trigger pull is capable of doing two things -- cocking the pistola, and dropping the hammer. Why a new lingo for the ugly black brick?

I would encourage you to drop the term "AD", and adopt "ND".

"Accident" to me implies "it just happened, it was beyond human control." Both of us know that 99.99% of the time, that isn't the case. "Negligent" tells the real story.

Actually, pulling the trigger does more than release the striker. Your striker is pre-tensioned, not fully cocked. Here is what I found on-line:

Safe-Action Trigger System The topic of endless debate, ridicule, and confusion, the Glock Safe-Action system is neither single-action (SA) nor double-action (DA).

The Glock, unlike most centerfire handguns, does not have a hammer which is dropped to push a firing pin when the trigger is pulled. Instead, the Glock has a striker which is completely enclosed within the slide. Whenever a round is in the chamber, the striker is partially retracted under tension. There isn't enough tension to fire the gun if for some reason the striker were forced forward from this position.

When the shooter pulls the trigger, the striker is retracted the rest of the way to full tension, wherefrom it can fire the gun. Because the trigger action needs only retract the striker part way, the trigger stroke is shorter and lighter than traditional DA designs.

I've fired over a million rounds of rifle, pistol, and shotgun in my life and I agree with your philosophy on AD's. Haven't had one yet but I know there's one waiting just around the corner. That's why I treat every gun as if it is loaded, including one that I have just unloaded and verified that it is unloaded. People who cannot realize the potential that they hold in their hand and be willing to take firearms seriously should not use firearms. There are good friends that I won't go out shooting with as they just don't have as they treat firearm too cavalierly.

As for stupid cops - I'm sure it runs in the exact same ratio as stupid civilians.

One thing that bothers me: pancake holster with a 5 1/2 inch strap? All pancakes that I've ever seen either use formfitting, spring clip, or thumb break retention systems. I can see a 5 1/2 inch retention strap on a field holster, but why on a pancake?

And As for one up the spout, absolutely, except for single action revolvers used in general carry. If it were a hostile situation and my only choice was a single action (unlikely), I'd sure as hell load the empty chamber before hand if I had time (unlikely) or the slightest hint that things might get hairy. Besides it's the 21st and only bozo's would use a single action for other than recreation.

That said I'm sure that some bozo is going to respond with some argument to the contrary.
