Thanks - yes, He was letting them know that works and rites and other such stuff (from when they insisted on having the Commandments handed to them) would not do it, because they were incapable of following the rules and one "minor" infraction carried the death penalty. Without His sacrifice, all were doomed.

How true, and my comment regarding the fact he was talking to a Jewish person is in response to many of the Churches saying we don't need to "proselytize" the Jews cause they're God's chosen people.
Right on about one "minor" infraction - I'm struck by the profound difficulty in just keeping the first one adequately. Thank God that his mercy endures forever!
