Busby & Bilbray Vote Early In 50th District Race

Last Updated: 06-05-06 at 7:16PM

Republican Brian Bilbray and Democrat Francine Busby stopped by the County Registrar's Office early Monday to cast a ballot for themselves. The latest polls show the two are in a dead heat for the 50th District congressional seat.

With his wife and daughter in tow, former congressman-turned-lobbyist Bilbray stolled into the registrar's office and voted for himself to replace fallen representative Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

About an hour later, Democratic contender and Cardiff School District board member Busby voted for herself in her quest to finish Cunningham's term.

Bilbray, who has focused his campaign on illegal immigration, is looking forward to a return trip to Capitol Hill.

"We've gained over 30 points in a matter of two months," Bilbray said. "Thirty points is a huge jump… I think the issue really comes down to the immigration issue."

Busby has been emphasizing ethics reform in Congress ever since news of the Cunningham bribery scandal broke. She's hoping constituents will propel her to victory on Tuesday, and again during the general election in November.

"Stop this pay-to-play politics, stop our members of Congress from catering to special interests and start focusing on the common good of this country," Busby said.

As far as where the candidates will be spending election night watching the returns, Busby will be in Encinitas with her supporters; Bilbray will be in downtown San Diego with his crowd.

News 8 will be at both locations to bring you their reactions to the results.

The moonbats are looking at this vote today as the first sign of their imminent takeover of Congress.

They lost their last first sign when Hackett was defeated in OH-02 earlier in the year.

And Bilbray will defeat Busby today and they will blame it on her encouragement of illegals to vote and to work for her election.

But Busby was not going to win anyway.

I predict Bilbray by at least 5%.

Should be more but won't due to Cunningham. The last die hard dems in the district left with Heaven's Gate.

I predict Bilbray by at least 5%.

Hope you're right, but do not disregard the illegal turnout.

I'm guessing that Busby didn't need papers to vote ...

I'll take a look at the ant farm later.

I didn't see a thread posted and thought we needed to get one place to collect anything that is being heard on this race...

I thought about subtitling it "DEM SUICIDE WATCH" but thought better of it...

In a "normal" general election, I would agree with you that Bilbray would beat Busby... however, I'm concerned with the fact that this election is being held during the primary election, with a hotly contested Donk Governor race that will get the Donk voters to the polls... with an virutually uncontested slate of GOP candidates for state office, I'm concerned that the GOP voters will stay home... and hand a victory to Busby.

Let's hope that Bilbray's Get Out The Vote efforts are outstanding, or he just might end up on the losing end of this.

I hope I'm wrong.

I think that Busby's stupid remarks took a potentially close race (maybe Bilbray by 2-3%) and energized the GOP vote and we'll see a much larger margin, at least that is my hope sitting 2000 miles away with no other indication but what I read on the Internet...

I would think the polling places would be watching for hoards of illegals coming to vote.

Busby will lose, but this race does have eerie similiarities to Dornan-Sanchez a while back.

I think it is Busby's efforts to get out the Bilbray vote by opening her mouth that will make this less close. We'll see, I hope the voters don't stay home...

Bilbray will defeat pro-illegal Busby, no question.

watching for hoards of illegals coming to vote

Someone has been keeping large stashes of illegals hidden away somewhere?

It looks like a very safe GOP seat-- and Cunningham is certainly to blame for the fact that this race is even known about outside California.

Sanchez should have never been sworn in. That was yet another election stolen by democrats; once again denying the civil rights of Americans.

I never got over that one. Total travesty.

Lets remember what Busby is fighting for here:

A seat as a Democrat US Representative-- giving her these powers:

* bypass Capitol security checkpoints and punch police officers without fear of punishment; and

* the power to drive drunk at 3am, hit a stationary barricade, and get a ride home from the police, again without fear of punishment.

* the power to accept a bribe and hide the evidence in your Congressional office, and if the FBI finds out about it, you will be able to keep the evidence hidden and if they get a Search Warrant, Congressional leaders of both parties will come to your defense.

All these things are possible for the Democrat Representative.

There are a couple of spoilers in the race which may result in the Perot effect.
