Don't they actually have to use them, to be effective?
Well since:
1. They obviously aren't being used, a fact everyone agrees withI could only assume that yes, they must be effective in preventing AIDS while sitting around in their shiny plastic package.2. There still exists this great desire that all these condoms that aren't being used be made available to all the non-users.
I think the hope is that at some point in the future the unused condom density will reach some critical mass thus coalescing into a 500ft tall AIDS fighting super prophylactic ball that makes "sweeechy sweeechy" sounds as it bounces around the world defeating AIDS.
Either that or condoms just provide a great cop-out allowing people to feeeeeeeeeeel they're doing something about AIDS with out having to go through the messy trouble of hurting anyone's sensibilities.
