OK, thanks.
I believe Henry the VIII was the guy who beheaded an astronomer not the Vatican.
I agree also, in that I believe same sex attraction, is not a choice.
We're nothing but mammals, so let's just do it like they do it on the Discovery Channel ...
I was a "virgin male" until the evening following my wedding. I was 27 years old, at the time.
I am a Roman Catholic
So's Ted Kennedy.
You consider yourself and your six siblings "unfortunate"??????
This thread is appalling ...
No one said it was easy! It takes conviction, strength of character, appreciation of the value of virtue to do the right thing. And, as you note, it usually takes belief in God and knowing that "as you sow, so shall you reap" is a natural law.
I know the difference in my own life of what it's like to give in to sinful desires, and what's it's like to restrain them. One way is a path of darkness, the other a path to light.
Shouldn't be a problem at all. Nobody's forced to join. But if you believe in artificial contraception, then sex is merely about orgasms, so hello legitimacy of homosexuality.
So you would have sex with someone you knew had aids if you had a condom?
I must commend you on your excellent post. I hope you continue to comment on articles relating to the Catholic Church and social issues.
Wow. Ignoramus maximus. No wonder you think what you do about biology.
Thanks!
Nominally, perhaps.
No, it is not "A" choice, it is the result of a series of choices. No one make "a" choice to be a drug addict, yet they make all the little choices that lead them right there.
Of course not. Dont' be silly. But alot of people have sex with people whom they don't even know and those people have the HIV virus. And those people don't even know it themselves. Its not something that just pops up like a wart or something letting you know its there. Unless you get tested every three months after having unprotected sex you don't know if you have it. Incubation period is usually 3 months to develop the virus. After that, it take a few years to develop full blown AIDS. In the meantime if you don't get tested you will never know you have it and can be spreading it to other people. But if you use a condomn you don't spread it around.
Aye, there's the rub...
Cheap and reliable, the traditional condom (or male condom) is used by millions all over the world to avoid pregnancies. Until recently, it has also been the only barrier method for preventing the passing of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV, between two sex partners. Used correctly every time people have sex, it is over 95% effective against the transmission of HIV.According to the NIH Summary Report published in 2000, condoms are only 85% effective against HIV transmission. Brent Bozell wrote an article in 2003 ("AIDS Education...Or Condom Promotion?," in which he cites an even more frightening rate of failure in preventing STD transmission:
In July 2001, a study for the National Institutes of Health found that while use of condoms was about 85 percent effective at preventing transmission of HIV, thats a failure rate of 15 percent. Human papilloma virus, or HPV, is the cause of more than 90 percent of all cases of cervical cancer, which kills more American women each year than AIDS. The NIH analysis found no evidence that condoms prevent HPV transmissions.
Not quite. It is more accurate to state that the Church view is that there should be no artificial breach between the recreational and procreational aspects of marital conjugality. We must always allow for the full openness of giving ourselves to each other.
As a practical matter, almost all adolescent males masturbate, more or less. Pastorally, it would be presumptuous to hold that all of these young males are guilty of sin that will keep them from the eternal vision of God. Often, it can be helpful to see the repetition of this solitary act as a growth phase from which the vast majority of men emerge ready to share themselves with a spouse.
In some cases, a habit remains, which is still likely not subjectively sinful. A man should work to overcome this, and reserve himself for his spouse.
Human weakness in the area of sexuality is most often the reason for failure. One should not put one's self in some little corner of hell, or leave the Church out of frustration as it calls us to perfection. We will never be perfect, but we can rely on God's help, and each others' help, in growing past any addictive behavior in this or any other area.
Why am I not surprised Sinkspur is defending self-defilement? Maybe because his Confessor told him it was OK.
No, it's still spreading among certain communities. Abstinence would stop ALL STD's dead in their tracks. If THAT is your real concern, then THAT is what you ought to advocate.
