Maxim magazine to lend name to $1.2 billion Las Vegas casino

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Maxim, the racy men's magazine, plans to lend its name to a more than $1.2 billion hotel casino that would open in 2010 on the Las Vegas Strip, the publisher said Monday.

"It's going to be upscale, it's going to be four-star, it's going to be sexy and flirtatious, absolutely," said Barry Pincus, director of brand development for Maxim publisher Dennis Publishing Inc. "But it'll also be fun, it'll be comfortable."

Maxim plans to partner with Los Angeles- and Las Vegas-based real estate developer Concord Wilshire Partners LLC to build the 2,300-room resort with a 60,000-square foot casino on nine acres just north of the Circus Circus casino hotel. Construction is expected to begin in late 2007.

No... I just started getting Entrepreneur, but that's probably the result of someone selling my name and address to a marketing agency, but it was a better hit than either Esquire or GQ, neither of which I have any interest in.

So, let's see - babes, toys, and money. The three reading material essentials for a twenty something male in America.

Whatever. In five years it'll be an outdated dump, and in twenty years they'll tear it down and build the next one. I think the Penthouse Casino in Atlantic City lasted all of five years, if that. And I don't just mean the business, I mean the building, too.

Maxim has built it's reputation on Super Bowl parties. Apparently, the Maxim party has been the hottest ticket in town for the last several Super Bowls. (snore) I still remember when Studio 54 was the hottest ticket in town. All things pass.

Funny, I was in Vegas recently and couldn't help but feeling for the cocktail ladies in the casinos along Freemont Street.
Same ladies that were serving drinks 30 years ago, same skimpy outfits, Just not quite as appealing.
Even at Ceasars there was an air of old lady in many of the waitresses.

My Wife and I went to Vegas last year. I had been to Reno in the 80s, and found that Vegas was not only bigger, but very different. Everything was expensive. Meals cost as much there as in NYC. Saw the Celine Dion show, which was excellent.
I couldn't help but agree with Frazier's comment on his show that Vegas was "The tackiest place in the world." Many people seem impressed by the fake replicas of Luxor, Paris, NYC, etc. None of those fakes made me feel like I was there (I've been to those places).
The worst part of it was that we saw many people dragging their children of all ages up and down the strip until the late hours of the evening. This was true, even though you would pass hawkers pushing XXX rated shows and other crudities.
It may be a great place for gambling, and partying, but people should keep the kids away.

I seem to recall a few years ago, Vegas was marketing itself to families. Bring the children, have a great time. Now, the last several years, they have shed that facade with the stay in Vegas theme.

Was there 5 days from Florida.
Went to Hoover dam, Mount Charleston(a ski resort just west of vegas), drove death valley and went to the valley of fire to the east.
All told we were in Vegas two days the rest we had to get out.
Saw Cirque De sole and a Monet exhibit at the belaggio.
Walked the strip an freemont a couple of times.
Was as were you suprised at the amount of smut crap.
Even circus Circus was a dump for kids.
Tacky is the name and decadence.
Did have a most wonderful meal at Ruth Criss's
I don't gamble but did walk thru most of the major casinos.
Nearly barfed on Freemont street from the decades long smoke in the places.

Fremont Street is horrible, and Circus Circus is ripe for implosion.

The Strip is too much for me most of the time, but Southern Californians love it. The more rooms they build, the more people drive I-15 and fill them up. Its really quite an amazing place.

IMO, its a great city. I know true working class people with very little education making six figures as doorman and valets. Where else in the world do you see that?

After getting out of the army I went to work in a Datsun parts dept. After about two years I was offered the job as parts manager of LasVegas datsun. I turned it down.
Too many vices in vegas and I am a weak person.
Just too much.

LOL! I understand. I have a few friends who say the same thing. I moved here after I was married and had a child. I can't imagine living here during my college years, though. The bars don't close - ever. Need I say more?
