Democrats say the amendment is a divisive bow to religious conservatives, and point out that it conflicts with the GOP's opposition to big government interference."

IDIOTS.

Of the arguments against this Amendment the claim that refusing to redefine Marriage away from the 1 woman 1 man definition it has had for millenia in western civ, this one about "Big Government" is lamest looney liberal lie ever.

Consider: We spend $2,500,000,000,000 dollars a year, just at the Federal level.

The cost of NOT redefining marriage to suit the gay activists: ZERO.

If anything, this saves Government money, the money spent on gar marriage.

As for 'interference', it doesn't get in anybody's way. It just means certain cant call themselves married.

IMO legal rights and priveleges are just smokescreens. For people who scoff at the importance of this issue, make no mistake. Next to the "War for Oil", this is the second most important issue on college campuses and with liberals across the country. By framing it as a "civil rights struggle," they are setting up the next battle. Specifically, a battle against churches and religion in general.

By forcing the legality of gay "marriage" upon our country, in spite of the fact that it has been voted against everywhere a public vote as been allowed, they will be able to file lawsuits against any church who doesn't comply. In Canada pastors are not allowed to preach against homosexuality from the pulpit. They can only read the verses on that topic verbatim from the Bible. Already, some have been put on trial. The gay marriage issue is HUGE, and that is why so much effort and money is being spent in trying to force it into become a reality.

This issue has layers of smokescreens in front of it. I wish more Americans could look past them and consider the long-term consequences.

"I've never seen their recruiting offices or their contracts, or their tv commercials"

Who needs commercials? they do more in depth marketing. Daily doses in the newspapers. Choice oscar slots for even boring vacuous movies that happen to have a gay theme. "Will & Grace" and the Bravo Channel is their "infomerical". Not to mention all the rest of that gaytertainment media complex.

" do they have a scholarship program? "
Yup. Coming to a school near you:

Depends on how politically correct your College is. Could be 4 years, or even 12 years.

Thanks for your points. Excellent. Let me add one more.

It is vitally important to also make this clear:

6. This Amendment doesnt "ban gay marriage" as the media would have it. The Amendment *preserves* the current and long-standing definition of marriage from adulteration through inclusion of gay unions, which are manifestly not 'marriage'. This definition of marriage has been in western law for millenia, encoded in Justinian's Laws for example.

I would love to have McCain voted out of office. He does not represent my views.

I'm like a seagull circling a shopping center where the marsh once stood when it comes to that topic.

Because once a state makes same sex marriage legal they can start teaching gay issues at any age in school. It will be impossible to shield your kids from this. It's already happening in Massachussets.

I know and if it were seriously going to pass, I would be more serious in my posting. I am using humor because it does not make sense to me to be upset about something that even the democrats know will not pass. If this was close or was going to be passed, then of course I would be more positive in my postings. Right now it is just a few days off for the Senate basically. What they need to do is get back to immigration.

Freedom is a consequence of responsible behavior. Legalizing irresponsible behavior will only limit freedom.

e.g. one could use your argument to argue in favor of murder based upon the limitation of the murderer's freedom would start a snowball rolling downhill.

Quite the opposite occurs whenever immoral activity is condoned.

This doesn't imply national government as a panacea for fellowship with God, rather it is respect for legitimate authority as established by a divine institution for believer and unbeliever alike.

I don't see how churches in the USA could ever be forced (via the legal system) to perform marriage rites to any other couple they don't wish to. I mean, the Catholic church has always been free to exclude divorcees, for example, from Catholic marriage. They won't marry two non-Catholics at all.

Frankly, I think the "they'll make your church marry gays" argument is bunk because there are plenty of couples that do meet the governmental definition but don't meet a myriad religious requirements - yet they cannot sue for a marriage in any particular church. The US is not Canada (thank God!) and religion has always been assured of far more freedom from government interference than in other countries.

Constitutional amendments cannot be held to be unconstitutional. Amendments are not mere tacked on sticky notes - they are, by definition, part of the Constitution. You might get civil disobedience from certain officials of course, but only at the lower levels, and they would be corrected.

BTW; the sin of Sodom was inhospitability towards the visitors.

You could be right; if ONLY verse 49 was written, but...

Ezekiel 16:49-50
 49.  "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
 50.  They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Verse 50 says WHY they got zapped!!

Not allowing gay marriage is an attack on free will...

Only of a minority. To ALLOW GM denies the the OTHER folks of free will!

limiting freedoms is like a snowball going down the hill,

No... it's what seperates a civilization from an anarchy:

Judges 21:25
In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.

It wasn't untill the third branch, the judeo-christian religion came into play that homosexuality started to be persecuted.

You appear to be in error.....

 NIV Genesis 19:24-29
 24.  Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah--from the LORD out of the heavens.
 25.  Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities--and also the vegetation in the land.
 26.  But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
 27.  Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD.
 28.  He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.
 29.  So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Isaiah 3:9
The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape.....
