Professor Troy is to kind. Kevin Phillips has been on a downward spiral since back in the 80's. Each book becomes more strident and eccentric than the previous ones. Those areas that are worthy of concern such as structural problems in the economy and the relation of fiscal policy to them are buried under increasingly bizarre extremist ranting about unholy alliances of Zionists and evangelicals.
What a shame this was the man who wrote the brilliant analysis that fills 'The Emerging Republican Majority'.

Phillips is an idiot and a bigot. Anyone who thinks that today's America is a "theocracy" has no credibility. Phillips is right in there with David Gergen as so-called conservatives who can be counted on to regularly parrot the most idiotic form of liberalism.

You know, I can remember back when Kevin Phillips was a conservative columnist in Walter Annenberg's old TV Guide. Seeing as how Pat Buchanan was another, maybe he's just come home. However, TV Guide's conservative columns didn't attack Israel.

But at least some change is positive. National Review is now defending Israel and refuting the anti-Israel rhetoric of liberals and progressives. Things used to be the exact reverse, though that never really made any sense considering the consistently anti-Zionist, pro-Arab position of the Communist world.

Its very rare to find a committed Zionist today. Incidentally, Steven Plaut changed the name of his blogspot to zioncon to underline the notion Zionism today amounts to a conspiracy in the face of all the conventional wisdom about Israel's evil. Everything of course is the opposite. But you'd never once hear Israel's critics acknowledge the Jewish State has done, despite her shortcomings, an impressive amount of good in the world. And that needs to be placed on the record.
