Bush is the Next Reagan

Jun 4, 2006

Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal

The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.

-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will

-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't

They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't

-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did

They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will

They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't

They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be

-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did

They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will

-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are

They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be

-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did

They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will

-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't

They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't

-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was

They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be

-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did

They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will

The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.

The great ones, Washington, Lincoln, Reagan became great by actually solving a problem unambiguously.

Who says violence or the threat of violence never solved anything?

Those are usually backwater politicians whose campaigns you're running. You'll collect your check, but they never win.

Oh really? We had a primary last week, and all six of my candidates won handily. Most prevailed two to one.

Your problem is that you believe everything that suits your agenda that you read on the internet.

"He won a cease fire.

Russia is still siding with our enemies, and hoping to resurrect its empire"

Reagan gave us the chance. That we have had uninspirational leadership (and allies) since he killed communism in Europe will never be blamed on him.

I believe Reagan would have handled the WOT much differently, but that is a purely speculative discussion, of course.

I think he will. IMHO being the only Pres in the last 20 years to openly try will me a huge plus. Carter screwed up with Iran, Reagan messed up in Leb, Bush 1 lost it when he called on Iraqis to stand up and abandoned them, Clinton with his...'umm I'l bomb sometimes'? No Dubya stood and deleivered. No one else can say the same.

EV can't run for President because such a small minority of Americans agree with him that he wouldn't even be a blip on the radar screen.

That's why all these folks are so angry, Jewels. They are impotent politically, and condemned to eternal anger at those in authority over them.........even the great ones like George W. Bush.

explain to me why if these people don't like Bush anymore because he doesn't goose step to their ideals, why are they at this site??? Why don't they go where everyone hates Bush, I'm sure they would be more comfortable.

Oh, but THAT is what they yearn for! They were NEVER so happy, as when Bill Clinton was president, because the rest of us were miserable too.

And should a Dem become president in '08, they'll just blame President Bush for that, when in truth, it is they and they alone, who are more than willing to vote fringe party/stay home, who WILL be responsible for that...should it happen.

Well, your discussion is getting more heated. I'm awaiting your usual rant about how the entire forum is full of demon-possessed infiltrators, leaving you and few other brave souls all alone here to save the Internet, indeed, the entire world from the socialists and hellspawned demonic influence. Or isn't it cocktail hour yet?

Yeah, but I still find Alan Keyes an inspirational speaker and thinker, despite his obvious flaw of being unelectable.

"And again it will not happen if we support the Pres and a reasonable successor."

It is not reasonable to expect the American people to pay for Afghanistan's and Iraq's democracy. Future presidents simply won't do it, whether they are Republican or Democrat.

Jim Robinson supported George W. Bush, twice for President, and still does.

He still has time, but he will likely not be among the greatest of presidents by a longshot.

You seem more than willing to engage in speculation when it suits you, and you can make a negative prediction about President Bush, whether it makes sense or not.....

Keyes is one heck of a speaker, I could listen to him talk for hours, unlike some people he knows of which he speaks!!!

WRONG:

When Reagan got to town, Washington was ruled by Tip O'Neil and the democrats. Reagan won his battles against a democratic congress and Senate.

Bush HAS A REPUBLICIAN AND SENATE AND CAN"T SEEM TO SECURE THE BORDERS with a majority in ALL THREE BRANCHES.

all six of my candidates won handily.

You worked for six candidates all at once, whose election was all on the same day? You must be exhausted. I suggest a beach vacation somewhere with some hot babe to recharge your batteries. That is my best advice.
