June 4, 2006 -- The pink Energizer Bunny better watch its back.

Electronics giant Panasonic, looking to crack the $4 billion disposable-battery market here, is taking aim at the fluffy-tailed advertising icon.

In an effort to promote its year-old Oxyride Extreme Power batteries - aimed at use in MP3 players and cameras and are supposed to last longer than the alkaline batteries hawked by the bunny - Panasonic launched an "educational" campaign called "Neuter Your Bunny."

Hey. The solution is simple: if their batteries are better, just slap a punitive import duty on them.

LOL ... American workers and their children should not have to suffer due to unfair competition.

How about a $5 deposit to make sure the battery is returned for proper disposal, with $3 returned to the customer, $1 held back for disposal costs, and another buck for some environmental cause...

Make the batteries cheaper and just not make them last as long. The revenue per battery will be less but they will make it up in volume.

I wonder if there's some way to make batteries with a miniature computer chip in them to power electronics.
