I have a Fig Tree, Bob, and in abit, the fruit will be ready to eat. (You'd be surprised how few people enjoy fresh figs, but I love them).

I've yet to find a way to keep the birds from eating my Organic Figs. And that depresses me. If you had a helpful hint, I'd appreciate it!

Get an old black garden hose, cut it into 4' sections and put several in the branches of each tree. They will think they are snakes and stay away.

I have a fig tree that produces in my Northwest patio garden. You're right, they are very good, especially when you can get one fresh off the tree in the morning. Siting is a key, but since that won't help in this instance, I'd try a fabric netting.

Some orchardists over East of the Cascade curtain use shiny tape hanging from trees and a directional motorized fan above the tree canopy to hinder the birds landing. Kinda expensive for one tree, but a person with ingenuity may figure out a cheaper alternative.

I have a Rainier cherry tree that requires NOTHING to produce a bountiful supply of cherries. However, because of its size 30', mechanical means of protection is out of the realm of possibilities. Consequentially, I haven't harvested a single cherry from the tree for over 10 years.

Crows.

Did you know America has more Crows and Deer now than since the Audubon Society started keeping records years ago?

To get rid of birds, you need "sight" alarms. Get some plastic kiddie snakes or a fake owl (you can get those at Walmart (garden area)) and set them up in the tree.
