Down on the border By Salena Zito TRIBUNE-REVIEW Sunday, January 29, 2006
If you ever happen to tag along with the Border Patrol after dark along the El Paso County, Texas, line and Mexico, be proficient in acronyms. And bring your night-vision paraphernalia.
Because once you are at the border, you are briefed about OTMs, MS-13s and SIAs. And you're warned that no lights are allowed since it sort of draws unwanted attention from the federales, armed men with anger issues.

I assume you wanted to ping them, not just list them ;)
Last 'graph of the story:The threat to our national security and way of life is real and the threat is urgent. It is out there, somewhere in the heartland. What happens at the border never stays at the border. And it may very well be coming to a neighborhood near you. What part of this don't our Senators understand?
There is no religious or political persecution. These mexicans are coming across the border to take our jobs. I am tired of paying taxes so they can enjoy the american life. What about me? I am a third generation american and the illegals live better than I do. This has got to stop. We need to boycott companies that accommodate mexicans.
Actually the illegals live pretty badly by US standards. They work for substandard wages (if their employers bother to pay them at all) and are subjected to dangerous working conditions and housing unfit for a dog.
All this is vastly better than conditions in Mexico. Better a welfare slum in the US, with clean water, cable TV, soup kitchens, safer streets, and honest police. Compare this with the vomiting horror that is the shantytowns of Mexico City.
Legal immigrants and legal guest workers, OTOH, can sue employers who don't pay them, or violate workplace safety standards, and can't be threatened with deportation in order to shut them up.
BTW, where are the Unions on this critical issue? Don't they care about the pay and working conditions of their brother workers here from Mexico? Don't they care that it's their jobs that are being lost, their wages that are being driven down? Where are Samuel Gompers and his ilk when the country needs them?
It's almost fruitless to expect anything to happen regarding the illegals and the border until after the Congressional election in November and maybe not until after the Presidential election in 2008.
It appears that GWB simply refuses to enforce the immigration laws and secure the borders; so we'll just have to make sure that the GOP candidate for POTUS in 2008 WILL!
BUMP to the top
Thanks for the bump.
