MANHATTAN BEACH -- Trying to fire up a lackluster crowd at a "get out the vote" rally, City Councilman Jim Aldinger asked who would be working over the weekend to get Californians to the polls on Tuesday.
Only a handful of the 80 activists raised their hands at the rally Thursday for gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides.
Campaign consultants reported similarly tepid responses from volunteers around the state -- even though an expected low voter turnout and an extremely tight gubernatorial primary could make this year's "get out the vote" efforts more decisive than in past statewide campaigns.
Secretary of State Bruce McPherson said Friday he expects 38 percent of registered voters to cast ballots in Tuesday's primary election. That amounts to about one in four of all Californians eligible to vote.
That would place Tuesday's turnout among the lowest ever for a California gubernatorial primary in a year when the polls indicate this could be one of the state's closest-ever gubernatorial primaries.
"The winner will be the person who has the organization to turn out the vote," said Democratic adviser Kam Kuwata.

With the special election last year and the 2003 gubernatorial recall, California has had at least one statewide election in each of the past four years.
"The activists are kind of burned out from election to election to election campaign activity," said California Labor Federation Political Director Bryan Blum. "There is only so much time they can devote year after year for elections."
The federation still plans a final flurry of "get out the vote" activities, with precinct walks and phone banks scheduled from Sacramento to San Diego.

Seemed logical to me. Tom is fit to hold either office while Arnold is fit to hold neither.

Arnold if his opponent is Angelides, and if Westly, leaning Arnold, but only leaning. I voted for Davis, against the jerk Simon. I have crossed the River Styx before, and am perfectly capable of doing it again, as long as it is not for a US Senate race. For that office, which has the power of confirmation of judicial appointments, crossing the River Styx is a bridge too far.
As far as bills sent to the Governor in 2007 and beyond, NONE of the three can be relied upon to stand up against the rump ranger agenda.

My question relates to the primary. Are you voting for Arnold on Tuesday?

Ya that is what I want. Of course. To ruin my state. That is why I own so much real estate in the state. Get a grip. By the way, looking back, would Davis have been a better bet than Arnold? Interesting question, no?

I know someone who knows Arnold in a real up-close, personal way, and he says that Arnold really is 'homophobic.' Meaning he is appalled and grossed-out by them from his weight lifting days.
I know Bill Simon - he's no jerk...just not a "politician."

You are certainly are entitled to your opinion. I just don't share it, for some reasons in the public domain, and some not, and those not I won't share. Those in the public domain were more than sufficient in my opinion, but that is just my opinion.
I think neither would have been any different. Bill Simon would have appointed REPUBLICANS, as staff, agency heads, and judges. He would have signed budgets that LOWERED taxes and he would have put up special election initiatives that DID SOMETHING.
If you couldn't see that and instead swallowed Davis's $60 million in false character assassination, then you ARE the problem in California. We all knew what Davis was going into that election and he more than proved himself. If you voted for him, then that's what you wanted.

Of course, if you were a True Conservative™, you would realize that losing the election is winning because then the state will be destroyed and then people will really get it and elect a Real Conservative™ to office and all of us will cheer until he does something we don't like, in which case he was nothing more than a RINO® to begin with.

That is just so funny. The kook legislature would have had a Simonite epiphany and slashed spending to accommodate the lowering of taxes. How could I have missed it!
