Actually there was a male Canadian flight attendant - who died about 1981 or so - who was traced as being "Patient Zero" of the spread of N. American AIDs.
After being diagnosed, he would continue having gay sex in every city he flew into, sometimes leaving a message scrawled on the mirror for his partner to find after waking up, to the effect that "You now have the Gay Cancer".
So actually, it was largely the willful transmition of the disease by one sex-crazed psychopathic homosexual that is largely responsible for the spread of this disease across N. America....
