I'm a believer in business, but when a President meets with the Chamber of Commerce it makes me grit my teeth.
This kind of encounter between big business and big government represents business at its worst, all PR and no innovation, fat cats with their hands out for a bigger share of the government pie, and on the other side politicians with their hands out for larger campaign contributions.

That video was disgusting. Has anyone on here ever been more dissapointed with a Republican president on a single issue?
To: SmoothTalker
He is with Ted Kennedy on this issue and against the majority of Republicans.
Too bad, all he had to do was support the House bill and enforcement first.
Now he is the lamest of lame ducks.
Welcome to Gerry Ford Part II

It is so simple, and as Hugh Hewitt says:
WIN the war.
CONFIRM the judges.
CUT the taxes.
CONTROL the spending.
SECURE the borders.
NOW...DO IT!!

A lot of people just wanted the human wave of folks overwhelming the US to stop. They thought it was far too many people far too fast. Legalizing 12 million here and allowing them to bring in their relatives, increasing legal immigration isn't what many of us had in mind. Solving the border issue by making everbody legal is easy.

"He backs a compromise plan crafted by senators, which, among other steps, would tighten borders, add 6,000 National Guard troops to augment Border Patrol agents, add new barriers and border sensors to reduce illegal immigration and provide an identification system for immigrant workers. It also would create a guest worker program."
Translation: Amnesty now -- in exchange for a promise of better law enforcement in the future.

Translation: Amnesty now -- in exchange for a promise of better law enforcement in the future.
Remember this blast from the past?
http://www.cis.org/articles/2002/terrorpanel.html
Instead of enforcing the law, some have suggested giving green cards to illegal aliens already here, thereby quote unquote eliminating the illegal alien population. Of course, this would not solve the problem of future illegal immigration and we did give out green cards to nearly three million illegals in 1986 and of course we know that they have been entirely replaced. But the point is some have argued even after September 11th that granting amnesty would be helpful to national security because it would allow law enforcement to know who is in the country. For this reason some amnesty advocates have even taken to calling it quote unquote registration of illegal aliens. However, in the past amnesties have actually helped terrorists and did not impede them in any way. Mahmud Abouhalima received a green card under the 1986 amnesty by falsely claiming to be an agricultural worker. Giving him a green card facilitated his terrorism because it was only after he received his green card that he was able to make several trips to the Pakistani-Afghan border, where he received the terrorist training he used in the '93 attack on the World Trade Center. Had Abouhalima not been given amnesty, he would not have been able to travel abroad and return to the United States as a trained terrorist.
The case of Mohammed Salameh, who rented the truck used in the '93 Trade Center bombing is also interesting. It shows why amnesty won't hinder terrorism. His application for amnesty was denied. However, because then, as now, there is no mechanism in place to force people who are denied a green card to leave the country, he continued to live and work in the U.S. illegally and ultimately took part in the '93 attack on the Trade Center as well. Thus, in the past, terrorists who applied for amnesty either received it, making their operations much easier, or when turned down, they simply continued to live in the United States illegally and to engage in terrorism unhindered.

< Both groups support the White House proposal for a guest worker program >
Your reply: We already have a guest worker program...
To which I add, We already have a path to citizenship. It's called "Go back home and apply in your own government's embassies!"
Given all the other problems this country is facing, I find it incredible that GWB wants to hang on to this loser of a proposal for the GOP!~

Call me Juan. Now I can't be arrested for illegal activity.
Bush....TRAITOR FOR BREAKING OUR LAWS. Now he uses our Constitution for TP.
Un freakin believable. I have seen many changes through the years. The slope to socialism is becoming very steep.
Republicans had better pray that there are enough committed illegal aliens voter's to make up for Legal Conservative Americans that will refuse to vote. I am done.

"In order for this country to be an economic leader" We now measure "strong economy" and "economic leader" in terms of how successfully we can devalue the labor of citizens and make greedy slave importing businesses richer.
It would be better for all of us ( except the CEO of Tyson ) if we weren't an "economic leader" then.
To: KeyLargo
He backs a compromise plan crafted by senators, The Senate bill is not a "compromise" and it's an insult to one's intelligence whenever it's portrayed that way. It was backed solely by democrats and RINOs and would import upwards of 100 million new democrat voters in the next 20 years. Far from a compromise it's a complete sellout of the United States, no thanks.
To: sheana
"We re going to enforce our laws, that's what the people expect", Bush said, You've had five years to do so Mr. President, but you've chosen not to.
Consequently, your promises of future action are not credible.
In other words: We do not believe you.

You know I live in California. My district is covered by Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and Bill Thomas (who is retiring). If it were not for Tom McClintock, who is running, and the propositions on the ballot, I too would sit this one out. My choices are horrible and I will not just give my vote away because they have an R next to their name anymore!
There will be quite a few blank spots or write ins on my ballot this time, for the first time in 30 yrs.

With all due respect, the president's push for amnesty is an insult to my intelligence as well as others. This Republican party better get their act together soon or they'll be ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN after the next election! What part of illegal doesn't our Republican representatives understand. ""There will be quite a few blank spots or write ins on my ballot this time, for the first time in 30 yrs.""
First time in 34 years for me. It started when I voted for Nixon my senior year in HS(1972). No more!!
To: sheana
I feel your pain, it's my district as well.
Boxer and Feinstein are pathetic jokes.
I've got about twenty emails in my inbox from Feinstein saying she does not support a "blanket amnesty". Then what does she do? She puts forth an amendment that will allow all the illegals currently here to stay!
In the real world, you'd call that a blatant, outrageous, and bald faced lie. I'm not sure what they call it in DC, maybe business as usual?
I hope that Mountjoy pushes hard for the fall elections.
He's the author of Prop 187, so he'd be a good replacement for Feinswine.
