Now they are going to regulate how much people eat??? If a person is overweight and doesn't mind being that way what business is that of the FDA???

I dont mind so long as Medicaid does not have to pay with my tax dollars any illness directly related to obesity including joint problems, breast cancer, psychological issues etc. Also goes for smokers, public money should not have to medical bills of overeaters, drug users, and smokers.

I agree with you in principle, but I'm against *any* public money being spent on health care in this fashion. Unfortunately, we've allowed the monster to grow, and we're faced with the consequences.

That said, who gets to decide what overeating is? Acording to government guidelines, any professional athlete would be considered obese, even though there's not an ounce of fat on his body. I'm over six feet tall, and my ideal body weight is supposed to be around 170 to 175 pounds. I look cadaverous at that weight, and when I did weigh that much as a middle-aged adult, I was having some serious health problems.

So, as I say, who gets to decide what overeating is? Will we need a prescription for a bottle of wine one day? Will the number of bottles we purchase be restricted? Who decides how many I can buy?

To me, it's a thorny issue, but above all, I want to make my own decisions.

Why not? Didn't they pay in? And even if they didn't what Christian wants to let them twist in the wind. Look up the word "community".

I don't think the gov't should be involved since that simply makes it all more expensive. Once the churches and other do-gooder organizations picked up the tab for people who couldn't meet their medical bills or put food on the table, so we all ALWAYS paid for it. Except now it probably costs a bit more.

People in a COMMUNITY help one another out. But the price of living in a community is just too damn high if BECAUSE there MAY be some cost to the community I get told how I will live and recreate and God knows what else.
