FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 02, 2006

CONTACT: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider 202-226-7616 Pelosi: ‘Bush Economy Continues in Wrong Direction for Americans Living Paycheck to Paycheck’

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to the disappointing jobs report that showed only 75,000 new jobs created in May, the smallest number since October, while real wages have remained stagnant over the last three years. Below is Pelosi’s statement and a chart showing how Republicans have turned their backs on the middle class:

"Today's report confirms that the Bush economy continues to go in the wrong direction for millions of American families, who are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make ends meet. Gas prices have doubled, oil company profits have tripled, while real income has stalled. Middle-class Americans are feeling squeezed, while the Republicans' Big Oil cronies are rewarded with tax breaks and subsidies that are driving up our record national debt.

"Democrats have a plan to take us in a new direction that brings economic opportunity and security to all Americans – not an economy that work for just the wealthy and Big Oil cronies."

You would think that at some point the Democrats would realize that class warfare doesn't win them elections.

Families living "paycheck to paycheck" need to stop spending and get a 2nd job, or a better job.

Democrats always seem to have a dark cloud over their head. They can never see good in anything. Why I left the Democratic Party long ago.

Democrats have a plan

Do tell. What might it be? Perhaps the plan is to give us all a dime everytime a Democrat says: "I/We have a plan", without actually telling us what it is.

We'd all be quite wealthy.

She says that we are going in the wrong direction. She thinks that a recession would be better for these people?

Well let's see how much they like it if we reverse direction then as Pelosi seems to want? Would a recession improve their plight?

Yeah, we need to pony up more to support lifestyles of people like Theon Johnson.

Well how about exporting around 11 million illegals from our economy and see if that helps those Americans on the low end of the economic ladder. One thing is for sure, the unemployment numbers would drop.

Strong economic growth, low inflation, and shrinking unemployment = "The wrong direction." Just when I think the democrats can't make any LESS sense, they come out with something like this.

oil company profits have tripled

Somebody has to pay for new oil field development and pipeline construction. Why not the oil companies?

Hey, you have a great idea! We can call it the "we have a plan" tax! Every time a Dem says they 'have a plan' and can't produce a plan, they have to contributed 10 bucks to a republican campaign!

Where are those plans again?

Yes, yes, something, open borders with amnesty, higher taxes and higher federal spending will fix....

Americans are in for a very rude awakening if they put the libs back in power!

May God help us all if we do....

How would she know? She has lived with a silver spoon all her life. Hey Nancy, try raising two girls on a Airman's pay. Nancy makes more in a week than I made in a year in 1975.

Paul Harvey commented on the low unemployment rate today. He said "the economy was coming up roses."

Living paycheck to paycheck..... Doesn't everyone who works live paycheck to paycheck? Some are able to put a bit more away, but in the end - is it not all the same?

OTOH, paying less in taxes would help - I know I would appreciate fewer taxes.
