which is why they specifically prohibited direct election of Senators. Now look what we get: 80% of the country ignored by essentially 1/6th of our governmental power structure.
I think you are saying that Senators would be more accountable to voters if the WERE NOT selected in direct elections. If that is what you mean then I do not understand why you would think that. Wouldn't elected officials be more accountable because of direct selection?

Pat Buchanan ran at the wrong time. If he were running in 2008, he'd have a pretty good chance.

I'm sure many are thinking the same. Doesn't mean he can't run again. I'm tellin' ya, the '08 election is going to be ripe for a decent and honest 3PC.

That proposed amnesty, and the bipartisan support it won, is a textbook example of an establishment against the people, and a state at war with the nation. For that bill would alter the face, fate and future of America against the expressed will of the nation.

Pat nails that as many others have.

Given the collapse in enforcement of U.S. immigration laws in his first five years in office, it calls for a great leap of faith to credit Bush's sincerity now. One senses the president is tossing pennies to the House to buy their support of the amnesty-guestworker plan on which he and Vicente Fox have been colluding for years.

As well, W not looking at all like the conservative that many of us thought he was. So much for Jeb's running at any point in the future. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us. Fool us thrice, ...

This immigration bill is not only about America's future, but the continued relevance of the Republican Party as the party to rule and run the nation.

In its decision whether to accept or reject the Senate amnesty-guestworker plan, the Republican House -- which rejected that course last December -- will define itself and the GOP. To the nation, it will be seen as either an independent House to be respected and re-elected as the only people's House in this capital city, or it will be seen as but a tool and rubber stamp of the White House and Senate.

Indeed!

In 1963, as Churchill was approaching death, a debate was held in our country and Congress on whether that friend and ally in World War II should be granted U.S. citizenship

Churchill was an American citizen ... until he turned 21.

He had dual citizenship, till then, from his American mother.

The real reason most of them hate Pat is because when he saw the Republican party walking away from conservatism, he walked away from the Republican party. However, that position is making a lot of sense to a lot more people now.

History is proving both Buchanan and Ross Perot correct in what they were saying in the 90s but it's way easier for those who disagreed to attack their personalities than their message.

pat buchanan is a moron"""

When Bush, Rumsfeld, the Weekly Standard and more freepers were predicting that the invasion of Iraq would be a piece of cake, Buchanan was warning that after we took Baghdad and toppled the regime, a long reign of terror around the country would ensue - we'd have a long and brutal guerrilla war to contend with. He was scoffed at for making this prediction -- by the real "morons."

a few disturbing quotes to consider:

Augustin Cebada, Brown Berets;
"Go back to Boston! Go back to Plymouth
Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future.
You are old and tired. Go on. We have
beaten you. Leave like beaten rats.
You old white people. It is your duty to die.
Through love of having children, we are
going to take over."

Richard Alatorre, Los Angeles City Council.
"They're afraid we're going to take over the
governmental institutions and other institutions.
They're right. We will take them over . . We
are here to stay."

Excelsior, the national newspaper of Mexico,
"The American Southwest seems to be slowly
returning to the jurisdiction of Mexico without
firing a single shot."

Professor Jose Angel Gutierrez, University of Texas;
"We have an aging white America. They are not
making babies. They are dying. The explosion is
in our population . . . I love it. They are shitting in
their pants with fear. I love it."

Art Torres, Chairman of the California Democratic
Party,
"Remember 187--proposition to deny taxpayer
funds for services to non-citizens--was the last
gasp of white America in California."

Gloria Molina, Los Angeles County Supervisor,
"We are politicizing every single one of these new
citizens that are becoming citizens of this country . . .
I gotta tell you that a lot of people are saying, "I'm
going to go out there and vote because I want to
pay them back."

Mario Obledo, California Coalition of Hispanic
Organizations and California State Secretary of
Health, Education and Welfare under Governor
Jerry Brown, also awarded the Presidential
Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton,
"California is going to be a Hispanic state.
Anyone who doesn't like it should leave."
Jose Pescador Osuna, Mexican Consul General ,
"We are practicing 'La Reconquista' in California."

Professor Fernando Guerra, Loyola Marymount
University;
"We need to avoid a white backlash by using
codes understood by Latinos . . . "

If there was any convincing evidence that Pat is an anti-semite, we wouldn't be allowed to post his articles here; but that doesn't stop folks from making their shrill accusations. """

The freepers who call Buchanan names have adopted Jesse Jackson's playbook: if you don't agree with somebody - and aren't articulate enough to answer his arguments - you use the race card. This is a tactic for leftists - and freepers who don't agree with (and don't have the intellectual firepower to answer) Pat Buchanan.

Despite all the slings and arrows, Pat Buchanan has always spoken his mind courageously - at no small cost to his career. Once again, he has written the truth - and as time goes by, more people will see it to be the truth.

Jeez, not this crap again. How many dozens of times has it been explained to you that Marx believe that free(r) trade would lead to a proletarian revolution, which is precisely what you are suggesting will happen on this very thread.
